Was the Musicians Toolbox II CD a Cakewalk product? Was it ever bundled with Cake or SONAR?

IIRC, the Musician's Toolbox was a third party product that was offered to Cakewalk customers through the Cakewalk website. It had video files, loops and a few apps. Not sure, though. I'll check when I get home.

It may have been bundled with the Pro Audio 9 Suite. (Also included GigaSampler)

    Hi Mike,

If you have my book, there are a couple of bonus chapters that also provide some info about CAL...

There is also an old CAL Editor available somewhere online that has syntax support for CAL scripts (but not always correct). It runs from the Tools menu.

Try these sites for further CAL info:

Where are these bonus chapters? I don't see anything about CAL in Sonar 7 Power. Did I forget to download something?

EDIT: never mind, I found them :)

The "Musicians Toolbox" was distributed with a slightly higher priced version of Pro Audio 8. It was 2 extra cd roms with some loops, videos and midi grooves.

    Hi Mick,

Yep, they're mentioned in the beginning in the Introduction.

Thanks and I hope you're enjoying the book!

The " undupe " cal routine has been around since twelve tone 3.0 days I think. I assume you've done some searches and have found a few zip files full by now. There used to be a macro function years back in cakewalk that let you record a particular midi edit routine and then it would save it and you could run it... but I'm not sure if it was linked to cal routines or not. That was many years ago though.

I wish Cakewalk would continue to develop CAL. Scripts can be very powerful, just look at Kontakt.

Can CAL support or access file and system operations?

Like, could a CAL be made that would get the system time, format it into characters that were acceptable as a file name, append it to the name of the current project, and then save the current project (or directly copy its cwp) with that timestamped name?

If so, then keybinding that script would be a quick and thought-free backup system.

I volunteer to beta test it!
