Just my thoughts:

Seems like if anything is going to "happen" core wise in platinum it should happen in the first 12 months-makes sense from a sales point of view as in - See, it's worth it for Platinum.

So, for me I may just go platinum 1st year and then stay there -  Decide to pay again or not depending on what I see and feel.

Oh, I don't know- this is weird. I do know I will be buying the Boxed version from Sweetwater -  same price for either and free shipping.

I want the new shiney box, be it Pro or Plat :-)

Mike, I am actually glad you will be upgrading. You cqn be a bit snarky, but you know your stuff and it will be good having someone with your knowledge using the same software as the rest of us.

I have a problem with mics that get snarky.

Drum replacement is essential with remixing. So many times it's necessary to change some sounds to get disparate tracks to mesh properly. It can also really help with live recordings when the part is great but there's a miking issue (you know, snarky mics).

Having read other posts here I am liking that idea of PLATINUM for year one at the reduced price of $149 ( only $49 more than PRO for 1st year - while looking at Euro Dollar rate €1= $1.17 & falling :D ). See how things are for the year THEN make the switch to PRO if needs be .. good idea :D

Its in year two that PLATINUM price increases substantial enough v PRO ( $100 ).

But maybe by year 2 another reduced offer will be available then?

Every year lots of people complain about having to pay for all included stuff that they do not need or already have.

I think of my $149 as paying for Sonar, and all the other stuff is free. I can use it or not.

I do prefer using the latest purchase of DP, Rapture,... so all the install codes are the most recent.

It just seems silly to me to even visit this issue.

$149 means it costs me at most 40.822 cents per day (40.71 during leap years) to use Sonar for a year. And costs me nothing for DP, Rapture, and all the other dozens of plugins.

And any one who is actually getting paid to use sonar should be all about happiness.

I don't think you have to install most of the "bloat".  Dim Pro, Rapture, AD2, etc. are all separate installs.

They give the starving artist enough to get started at a very reasonable price.

Something to consider is what's being released is only the starting point. Most likely drum replacement and other upcoming features may be only Platinum exclusives. So keep that in mind when making a decision.
Not trying to sway you one way or the other but there is a lot more coming over the new 12 months. Think of it as the equivalent of a full new release like X5 is still to come as part of your membership. So if you pick professional you will get the features planned only for that product. There is definitely high value in the platinum membership - not just dupes of what you own.

And for these reasons I am opting into the Platinum version - as the BJ song goes "...it's a matter of trust"

Also with respect to add ons from 3Rd party companies, we got TH 2 Producer, I upgraded to the full version, now a couple of years later guess what TH2 full version is included. Shortly after getting Addictive drums 1 we were encouraged to upgrade to Addictive Drums 2 and now we get it free with he next Sonar release.

I am pretty sure that TH2 is only the "TH2 Producer" version (not full), and that the AD2 Bundle is not the "upgrade"... it only includes the "AD2 engine," similar to the AD2 "gripe threads" recently.

I have X3P and I use AD1 extensively but have never bought any of the AD packs or anything else from XLN.

Is there any downside to only having the AD2 "engine" given I'm going to have so much more content?  Will I still be able to use AD1 (with it's somewhat minimal content)?

That's the complete kicker for me going the Platinum route (VocalSync & everything else just isn't persuasive to me).

Forgive my ignorance & thanks.

The AD1 stuff won't work in AD2 unless you upgrade it with XLN.  Depending on the version of Sonar (Professional or Platinum) you get either 1 or 3 ADPaks which I assume you pick when you install AD2.

AD2 will likely never get used by me on a project.  Although, I did use it to help test the wrappers for the new EZplayer Pro 1.2.0 that's just been released.

I'm after Core improvements like the revised Audio Snap (which I hope has better detection algorithms), stackable FX and Sends in the Console (which I have probably whined about for 4 years), Vocal alignment tool and the Drum Replacer which is in process.

I haven't used X3 in a single project so the core improvements there will be like new toys to me, as well.

So, I upgraded to X3 Producer just 14 days ago. While I'm told I will receive a "discount" on the new Sonar, I've barely had time to get into Producer. Not ready throw more $$ in the pot. Would have been nice to know about the new release before I paid for the upgrade :-(.

This happens every time there is an upgrade.  Maybe the new membership model will help to keep this sort of thing from happening.

I downgraded from X2 Producer to X3 Studio because I had comparable or better synths and plug ins(Kontakt,UAD, Superior Drummer etc) so it was of little value for the price.  So Platinum is out of the question . Not enough content that I would use. I am questioning  upgrading at all based on Cakewalk's teasers for the next few months. I too would prefer core improvements. How about some advance info on a better ACT? Or speeding up load times? THAT would be a better approach to getting my money. By the way, I have purchased Cakewalk products before they  incorporated audio. Right now I have Reaper and Studio One Pro on my computer and am considering my future path.

Gheesh, why is taking quotes out of  context fashionable? Did you see any mention if money? Value for price was the point. If X3 Producer did not provide value, this rendition of Platinum provides even less for me. Did you notice the plugins I have listed? I don't have a problem spending money on items I deem have value, but the path that Cakewalk has laid out does not have value for me. If I want to spend $50 on a mystery this year I can think of several items my wife and I could use together that have a higher potential:)
