Re: What are these theme things? 2016/08/05 14:25:33 (permalink) ☄ Helpfulby pentimentosound 2016/08/06 13:44:21
I don't have the Theme Editor installed and probably won't muck with it as much as others seem to be when I do so I'm currently less (more?) than useless as to HOW the Theme Editor lists and names these things.

BUT...

I can only imagine the TE uses at least some kind of reference to the "official" names of the program ares.

The two areas you are pointing out are called...

1) (upper left) the "Track Inspector". There is another view that uses the same graphics called the "Clip Inspector" (just click on the "Clips" tab to the left of the "Track" tab above that bubble to see it). Based on what I've read about the TE I do not think it allows you to edit these two areas. Of course I could be wrong.

2) (bottom "black" thingie) In that image what is being point to is the "Bus Pane" background. So if you do not have enough busses to fill up whatever is visible of the "Bus Pane" that is what you see. That is the same color/premise as the "Track" and "Clip" panes in the "Track View". It's important to note that ALL of these "Panes" reside inside the "Track View" so if there is a submenu in the TE for "Track View" options that is where I would look and I would look for "Background" because that's exactly what that black bar is.

To avoid going into too much text based descriptions I will refer you to the "Getting Started" section of the Help files (online, pdf, in program, etc). There is an overall graphic of the main Sonar screen that describes the different "Panes" and other areas by name which should help a bit. Of course there are plenty of other graphics throughout the help files that will describe more in depth views like the "Track/Clip Inspector" views.

Cheers.

PS: I'd have to say the MOST useful thing I ever did when trying to wrap my head around Sonar (and other programs) was to REALLY focus on the terminology used for specific areas and tasks. It may seem screwy but by learning the "official" names for things it made searching the manual(s), forum and internet in general for answers soooooo much easier/efficient/reliable. It also helps a TON when asking questions here.

It's perhaps no coincidence that neither of these elements change between Mercury and Tungsten so it's possible that they are currently hard coded and non-themeable.

i like where you are going with this.  I can't stand Mercury OR Tungsten.. both too black and dark.  I like DAW's to be bright like this with color.

! seconded. (more or less)

In fact this whole thread is why theme editor is interesting for me.

I REALLY want a Sonar look-and-feel that skews light, silver and pale white. And if you can't change to the 2 elements the OP points out, then it's unlikely the theme editor is going to help me out.

*fingers crossed*

Re: What are these theme things? 2016/08/06 12:16:33 (permalink)
Personally I think cake have got this more wrong that right. What did we like about Mercury? The coloured tracks and channels. What does editing mercury or using and editing tungsten take away? The coloured tracks and channels. Did users like the 'muted' colours or the tracks and colours? Not really (See Craig's tip on attempting to overcome the muting) they wanted the hoice to be more colourful.

Now we have the ability to edit, but loose what we liked or kind of liked. But to do so is beyond simplistic. It's completely over convoluted. I spent the whole of Monday making Mercury not Mercury but a deep red, and then discovered I lost he coloured tracks and channels. The one thing I liked, or kind of liked if I could removed the muting,

I'm back to Mercury as a default

I am hopeful that one of the theme masters here will be able to figure out how/where we can edit the elements I am asking about.

I imagine that one set of elements may be part of the "inspector" while the other element may be something like "track view bus pane background".

Do you have me blocked or something?

Hi Un,

I'll try to check for you today (as I have some time), although I think you're on the right track with your guesses. They may be editable, particularly if they are color swatches (if you have the editor, you'll recognize what I talking about: the squares of color at the top of an edit category).

Thank you, I hope you may find something I have missed in the theme editor choices.

I haven't tried combining a new theme with SONAR's preferences/colors but that will probably be part of my next attempt.

Well, you needn't have thanked me. I looked quite a bit, but came up short on both counts. There doesn't seem to be anything that is specifically labelled a name that could fit what we're looking for. It's really odd, almost like there's a hole in the editor at those points.

My guess is that particularly "the black stuff" at the bottom is a global setting; you might figure out what it is, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a number of other areas change color as well.

I'm very sorry that I haven't been more help. If I do find something out I'll let you know.

Hi Dan,
I am thankful that you actually took the time to look and help confirm that looking further may not be effective. Your efforts have been helpful.

I currently have the following choices in my theme set with easy to spot colors to serve as indicators:

Alternative Text #1 = bright green
Master Control Bar Background = bright green
 Strip Background = bright pink
 Control Background = bright green
 Slider Background = bright green
Track Inspector Background = bright orange
 Strip Selection = bright pink

None of these colors seem to show up as I search through the actual SONAR interface for any evidence that they are actually making some effect on the GUIs appearance.

My "Tracks View > Clip Pane Backgrounds" are set to the tan or beige color that is apparent but I can't find a "Tracks View > Bus Pane Background" to change the black to a similar shade of tan.

 Thank you.

This is where it is difficult to help: I'm not quite sure where you are expecting them to show up. Can you be more specific, rather, in just what you are trying to change? Even a screenshot with circles could do it (like you first did,  with comments if helpful).

Inspector & Track View.

Almost all areas of Sonar were editable with Duckbar prior to Splat. Since I don't have Splat or theme editor, I can't say if T.E. can do the same. IACOTO that until it can, I will remain with X3.

As a test, if there's a way to select all the colors within T.E., make them all the same (like pink, orange or yellow) and save that as a color set, open Sonar and see if those areas are changed. Switch back to default colors when done.

Point is, if the color remains unchanged, you can't change it. This was the case in X3 which confused a lot of people. I'm hoping Cake will eventually weed out these "defunct" colors.
