04.05.2015 [Demo Recording]

Did this one a few days ago.  It could be described as 'melodic black metal'.  There are no vocals.  Any tips or thoughts on balance, levels, and overall EQ/mix is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Needs more (some?) bass. Drums are not cutting through. Spread the guitars more.

It has bass and, interestingly, you're the first (of dozens) to say that the song needs a bass or more bass.

Drums are not cutting through.

Could you specify what you mean?  I'm confused.  They're quite loud and audible.  What would you mean by 'cutting through'?

My guitars are panned 100% hard left and hard right.  Would you suggest I use a stereo widener?

That's because I'm a bass player.

They were barely audible to me. When I did hear the snare it was had a rounded sound not crisp.

I'm not against bass at all.  I was just surprised to read what you said because you were the first.  What did you listen to the track on?  I do my mixes on Sennheiser HD250's and various cheap headsets and speakers, so perhaps top-of-the-line monitors made all the difference there.

What would you suggest on stereo wideners?  I never even though of using one before.

Thanks for listening and giving your thoughts!

Of course I mean for guitars. I rarely use that tool on anything but guitars.
