1 Knob Control...One Can Only Wish!!

Hi there fellow Cake...ites!! By chance does anyone know how to set up a control surface so that a "knob" of choice can be used to control whatever the mouse cursor is hovered over? I think Novation makes a controller unit that does this but I have to believe via ACT this could be done...no? Right now controller wise I have a Mackie Universal Pro surface, a Frontier Design Transport, a M-Audio Trigger Finger and numerous keyboard workstations. Ideally I would like to use the Mackie Universal Pro's jog/shuttle wheel for this but as it stands today it only works in "Jog Parameter" mode on certain items. Thanks in advance for your help. The Mackie unit only really works well in Mackie mode, therefore can't be set up how you want it.  AFAIK it can't be used for ACT at all.

For other surface ACT set up have a look at my ACT set up video

It's true the Mackie can't be used for ACT as its 6-year-old driver doesn't support it. When the Mackie driver is selected in Preferences, the option for ACT is greyed out. I believe this is a case for the necessity of a driver upgrade as the Mackie (and AFAIK as I know, any control surface) is completely controlled by the DAW and is functionless without.  It has touch-sensitive faders and knobs so ACT support is entirely feasible for it.

Thanks for the responses Gents... FastBikerBoy - I took a look at your ACT video; nice job - thanks for making it. So you obviously know this pretty well - do you have any suggestions on how I could do this "1 Knob" idea via a generic control surface like the Trigger Finger? I have it mapped in SONAR working just fine as a standard controller.

Unfortunately I don't. I'm not sure it's possible from hardware at the moment. If I understand your idea, the knob will control whatever the "in focus" element on screen is?

I like the idea but how feasible that would be I have no idea. ACT will assign a whole bunch of controls to the in focus plug-in but AFAIK you can't set it to do what you want, or not so it changes within the plug in at any rate.

Yup - the jist is - hover your mouse over any control and this "1 knob" controls it...

Here is Novation's answer - called "Speed Dial" using their Nocturn Controller.

It would be great to figure this out without having another controller...
