    nice. I got directions here:

    http://maps.google.com

Just type in Roseville, Michigan and boom...yer in. Try clicking the "satellite" button up on the top right...now THAT'S cool! Satellite imaging...I can see there's ample parking there at the Guitar Center...over 150 parking spaces! Now that's technology for ya!

Hey DA...did you make it home ok.

I didnt get a chance to go...kinda bummed about it, but they opened up overtime at work...and i need all the over time i can get right now. I didnt get home until a little after 7.
It would have taken me about 30 to 45 minutes just to get out there...so i figured it would have been over by that time.

    how was it?

I saw him there. I'm pretty sure he absconded with the P5 pen. It was a good demonstration. I had to leave a bit early but picked up a few kinks i didn't know. They sold a few upgrades and gave away a loop cd. I was going to stick around and try to get a cd for an "old timer" but couldn't hang for the duration.

Brandon did a nice job and seemed very familiar with the product. I would have liked to be a little more interactive and deveolp a song from scratch together, but there is only so much you can do in the time allowed.

DA was there, and so was the pen. now they are both missing....hmmm.

I wouldn't venture down the cass corridor unless I was packin and someone had my back.

I can honestly say it was worth the trip despite the rough beginning I had in trying to get across the border.... I blame B-rock...he tipped 'em off...I know it was either him or Mikey! The guard muttered something about ridding his nation of the "igloo dwellers"...
He literally asked me why I hadn't any instruments to declare if I was going to a music tour/convention...after I explained that it was software based he rolled his eyes and stated that "people like you put instrumentalists out of a job" and "if everyone just used computers then no one would have any talent for instruments anymore". After I snidely pointed out that (and I may have overdone it here) he probably wouldn't know computer generated music from instrument based music these days, he got defensive with me and demanded to see my birth certificate. NO LIE!! He even had the audacity to demand my personal size pizza that I had just ordered 5 minutes before ( I had just got off work and needed to eat on the run! ).
When I asked why he wanted my pizza he said that the US ban on Canadian beef had not been lifted and that pepperoni was in some way a beef product. I almost began to argue but then remembered Juan's cajoling the night before..."I GOT A P5 Pen...THE ONLY ONE LEFT...NYA nah nah NYA nah..."
I had to get to Roseville. I promptly picked off all the pepperoni slices and wrapped them in a Kleenex and handed them to him. He shrugged and motioned me on my way! Thank God.
(I'm very serious!! I laughed about it afterwards, but it really made me angry!)

Roseville is just 48 minutes away! WOW. Who knew!? First I'd ever set foot in a Guitar Center in my life. In fact, I've never seen such an amazing array of musical devices...I was in heaven. I'll be visiting there quite a bit methinks!!

I was a tad earlier than I expected even after the fiasco at the bridge, so I wandered around and stumbled upon the midi controller section. Ahhh.. darn. Why am I so weak!?
The new E-MU X-Board 25 had just arrived and was on sale for $149. I saw the Trigger Finger....knew everyone here was raving about it and had one by now. I'm not much of a follower. I bit on the E-MU... keys over pads anyday for me.

The show was about to start so I sauntered in and introduced myself to Brandon. What a cool guy. He instantly loaded up his Dist. Clav into P5 and began rocking the place to its foundation. We talked about his Midi setup there and I was getting pretty giddy about my purchase...can't wait to try these knobs in my productions! My Korg has but ONE slider that I can use for automation and watching Brandon with his M-Audio Keyboard and Edirol portable key/knob controller all hooked up was like a light going off in my head!

I met AMAC there soon afterward, and as soon as Brandon had walked away for a sec, he immediately began poking at the knobs and buttons which triggered Brandon's big demo in grand style....oops. It was quite odd... we listened to that one groove cell for about 3 minutes before it dawned on us to simply hit the spacebar on the laptop to stop it. LOL

Then the show began. Brandon briefly went over Dimension and ran through some patches. He showed us Z3ta in it's snappy new Cakewalk box....mmmm.....consumer packaging!!
Then, being the Clav whore that he is, he loaded up his demo and knocked our socks off showing us how to use P5 in a live environment. At last... the reason I went. Groove Matrix was pretty much what the show was about. And he really exposed the glory of that module! Even his random drum edits where he automated some Alias Factor over the drum patterns on-the-fly sounded amazing in his performance. Most of the impromptu edits he made sounded amazingly good! He even threw in a patch from Z3ta to demonstrate the Arpeggiator which sounded amazing!
I did learn quite a bit, especially seeing as I knew so little about the Groove Matrix going in.

:10: was a no-show. That was the real let down of the night. I had hoped to at least buy him a new set of powered Alesis monitor speakers with matching sub (so he can hear his clipping bass notes) But... oh well... he remains a mystery figure to me.

I enjoyed it very much. Too bad Orphan had such a lousy rep at the show he attended. Next time you'll know enough to ask who's representin' before you go!

So here's what's on the corner of my desk now!

Oh...and what is that beside the Emu?... could it be....

TWO P5 pens!??!? (and if the customs guy is reading this... I DIDNT DECLARE THEM!!!) muahahahahha!

No fair he does make the dist. clav sound really sweet...

I explained that it was software based he rolled his eyes and stated that "people like you put instrumentalists out of a job" and "if everyone just used computers then no one would have any talent for instruments anymore"

Try having my job, I work with a bunch of bluegrasser's, and guitarist who will only play on tube amps, and sadly they think of computer music as in boy bands and Pro-tools inhanced pop singers, but there is so much talent out there, this board is a good example.

My goal is to over come the stereo types and mix my classic rock/metal sound with trance sounds

I considered myself a keyboardist until I saw Brandon playing....PFFFFT! I'm a plunker, at best!

I joked with him last night that he probably made guitarists very angry what with the way he made that distorted clav sound!!

My goal is to over come the stereo types and mix my classic rock/metal sound with trance sounds

WOW...Juan...wait till you hear my next piece! That's all I can say! No really...I'm not allowed to go into anymore detail and the secrecy is killin' me!!

You have to admit it was. I'm laughing.
And yes, next time I'll check who's running the show before going. Sounds like you got something more along the lines of what I was expecting, minus the pepperoni incident. Mikey must have been behind that one, too.

re: border crossings. my Wset Coast friend is obsessing on the following story.

In case you somehow missed it, here's this little gem:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/cpress/20050608/ca_pr_on_na/us_cda_slayings;_ylt=AkzghqZmvy7JNWaCYHBOxb.FM1IB;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

if they let this guy through, well...
the pepperoni incident should definitely take a rightful place in the annals of P5 forum history
