15 Free FX Chains - bit how to install???????

Many thanks Cakewalk for the email I just received about the 15 free FX chains.
The installation instructions don't work.  They tell me to drag the folder in the unzipped download over the shortcut in the same folder.  When I do that my screen offers to copy it whereas your instructions show it being moved.  Also, I always download stuff to a special Download directory elsewhere on a different drive.  How is Sonar going to know where that is?

More and better instructions please!

If you right click then you can Move a file.

I am having a similar problem with finding the right path to these FX files. The Shortcut shown in the installation file does not get picked up by Sonar X2 on my system.

How do we tell Sonar where to find the files?

The VST Plugin Manager does not seem to have an FX scanning option or did I miss something?

Went through Media / Views / Folders and found the relevant file area (under Sonar X2) and then copied the Odyssey folder onto the main FX folder.

This does not show up properly until you go back into the Media area in Sonar X2 though.

Not sure if that is a glitch but I thought there was something wrong until I saw it did show up under Media after all.

You need to extract the files from the zip first.
Then if you drag n drop the "Odyssey (Bonus FX Chains)" onto the "FX Chain Presets - Shortcut' shortcut - the "Odyssey (Bonus FX Chains)" folder will get copied to the folder "C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X2 Producer\FX Chain Presets"

If, like me, you have your Cakewalk Content folder on another drive or in a differently named folder the drag'n'drop method of installation will not work.  All it will do is copy the material to the wrong location.  In this case you have to copy the  "Odyssey (Bonus FX Chains)" folder to the proper location yourself.

If you don't know where that location is - open Sonar and check Preferences (under the Edit menu) then look under "Folder Locations" at the last item on the list "FX Chain Presets".

    Edited to improve clarity...

    TheSteven has it

I just opened the zip (built-in windows zip program) copied the folder  "Odyssey (Bonus FX Chains)" to the "C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X2 Producer\FX Chain Presets".
    Works like a top.

I think the issue about getting the email should be addressed in a different post....

Check your account at the Cakewalk Store, it should be an item listed under your account near the top.

Thanks TheSteven, I see it. Next time I'll look first.

I'd never be aware of new content if others didn't bring the subject up in threads like this one.

    Good question.
If it wasn't for these forums I'd never hear of such things.

I know these FX chains are for X2 which I have (just not installed yet), but I'm still using X1.  Any chance these work with X1 with tweaking maybe?

Or is this a new X2 thing and I haven't yet experienced it?

(haven't installed X2 due to the many troubles some are experiencing and know that I will have some of these problems, waiting on next patch - plus I don't ant to learn take lanes yet.)

Ok, now that I have these things, what do I do with them ? :-)

I've just read up on FX chains in the manual so I know how they work
but how are you supposed to make use of the one's that were already there and these new ones ?

Is it just a matter of dropping one in the fx bin and listening to what it sounds like ?

How is that better than just setting up the fx's that you need to get the sound you want ?

Many thanks to Cakewalk for the free chains.  I have 5 chains that I use for different projects, but these will be welcome to give me a few new ideas.

"Custom" is a top 5 description for Sonar X2a!

No, you should be ok - I seem to remember X1 actually introduced Fx chains (or was it Expanded?)

The point is, all the chains I've looked at only use the stock plugs that come with Sonar - no Pro Channel or 3rd party (obviously) modules

The chains were first introduced in X1 Expanded.  So you should be able to use them.

    Cool.  Thanks.

I have X1 Producer installed and running , just haven't done the X2 producer yet.  The FX Chains download is in my store account.

I'll go play and see what effect (haha) they have on X1.

Does anyone know where to get the Odyssey (Bonus FX Chains) pack now ? I don't see it in my account and must have missed it when it was offered. I came across this when I saw Craig Anderton's new CA Power Chord FX Chain.

    Cheers,
