1970's punk rock documentaries
1970's punk rock documentaries So, I've been having a bit of a nostalgia fest watching old punk videos of shows and bands from the mid 1970s to very early 80s. It's cool to see a bunch of real life punks and hardcore musicians getting down 100% and to realize that none of them have any tattoos. Full commitment!!!

I thought Don Letts's Punk:An Attitude was very good. Got up the nose of a few of my mates though 'cos it dealt with US punk to a large extent, apparantly it's only us Brits who are allowed to do punk

I guess I have been a punker nearly my whole life, though I am only 33 so It wasn't from as the 70's. I got into it listening to bands like the misfits, Rollins band, Operation Ivy, Early Green Day, NoFX etc.
The music has always had an energy I connect with that I've never found in other styles. I have come to appreciate the better musicianship in most other styles & have grown as a musician because in my 20's I opened my horizons to stuff outside of the punk underground, but I also feel in doiung so I lost some of that raw unhindered quality to the way that I write music now. Still edgier than most I think but much closer to the mainstream than I was before. Cool Thread! A+

I'm proud that I got through without so much as a blemish. The closest call I had was to be a swallow (unladen) on the left my stomach to exactly mirror one on a certain ladies stomach. In some fit of uncharacteristic wisdom, for me at that time, I figured it would have caused a fuss with my then wife and elected not to have it done. I sometimes wonder these days if I had have gone ahead whose swallow would currently be flying at the lowest altitude...

I've turned corporate punk. I wear suits (that hide my 1/2-inked body) to work, have some grey in my moustache, and the guitar salespeople now compare me to their parents.
So it was pretty redeeming when I was buying a new acoustic guitar the other day. Checking the resonation and neck by playing a combo of open strings and notes at the 10-12th frets, I ended up playing The Stooges' I Wanna Be Your Dog. The young salesgirl with the pompadour and rockabilly tats on her hands screamed in delight. I was cool once again, if briefly.
With my ounce of credibility, I convinced her to buy "Please Kill Me" by Legs McNeil. For the overly-literate, it's a fantastic read!

It was so good that I keep meaning to replace and reread it.

"Please kill me" is only available in print... I was going to buy it on my wife's kindle and it is not available. This means I may actually have to leave the house to go buy it or actually order the book on-line. I do not like waiting for books, I have gotten so used to just downloading it. Holy crap this had ruined my whole day...Please kill me...  "The Future is Unwritten" is a very good look back at the Clash. JR
