1st Beats/measure crackles and pops and then clears up

Hi everyone.  Jeff here.  I'm studying for degree in Using Cakewalk Recording Software.  I'm loving it, but it's taking a lot of time to try and learn it, especially with some previously mentioned problems with SI Drums.  Anyway, I have Sonar X1 Essential and creating drum patterns with the Cakewalk TTS1.  The first beat or two crackles andf pops and then clears up.  I'v turned down volume, master volume, gains and unable to correct.  This occurs with any other soft synth, also.  Any suggestions?

For me on my laptop it was my audio driver, have you downloaded ASIO4ALL yet? what sound card are you using? I'm betting it's on-board.

    Hi Shawn

I'm using a Realtek sound card on the computer when I'm doing drum tracks.  I had problems with ASIO4ALL in the past.  When I use my keyboard or Alesis mixer I have drivers for ASIO, but I haven't tried that yet.  i'll try the mixer tonight .

    Thanks

Oh my god you will never have descent recording using Realtec.  I had that same problem you were having when I was using Sonar 5.

I switched to using an outboard sound card the Roland UA-25. Yes it is pricey at about 250.00 but your recordings will come out way better. Invest in a good sound card.

Leave one or more blank measures at the beginning of your project.
When playback starts, there is a lot of background startup activity for the synths, which can cause a glitch or hiccup if the synth is attempting to play a note at the same time.
Also, some synths will dump the buffer content at startup, resulting in a stray note that seems to be coming from nowhere.
Leaving the dead space allows this activity to occur without affecting your actual song.
Once everything is bounced down to a final audio track, you can trim the space away.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  I was able to use ASIO with my mixer and I didn't have the problems so far.  I'm hoping that will be the solution.  I guess I will always need to be have the mixer on whenever I'm using SONAR X1.
