1st Scary Fly This Year
There were a half dozen of these in our backyard patio and they relentlessly follow you to bite you.....nasty things they are. The female yellow fly is one of the most serious biting fly pests wherever it occurs (males do not bite). It attacks man vigorously, and the bites are painful, often causing large and itchy swellings. Although it attacks throughout the day, it is most active during the late afternoon and on cloudy days. It is especially common near large bodies of water, but tends to remain in or near forests. It is one of the few tabanids that attacks indoors. All exposed parts of the victim's body may be attacked, and since the flight is rather quiet, a person is not aware of the flies until the sharp pain of the bite is felt.

We had probably a hundred suicidal flies try to break through our living room windows last night. Really strange, they just flew really hard into the glass and just splatted there. We just heard 'ping, ping, ping' for about 15 minutes and then it stopped. Thankfully they were little ones, not nearly as creepy looking as Mesh's fly.

Personally, I would have gone with "udder side" but, hey, that's just me!

In the past 5 years that I've (happily ) lived here, I'm sure I've been bitten a few times and the sting wasn't bad at all (nothing like what that description says). Actually, small ant bites and their aftereffects (itching/little bumps on the skin etc...) are much more painful than what these flies have done. I'm more worried for my little one's getting bitten......just don't want them to get the real (so called) 'serious bite'. They're also fairly easy to kill though....my wife's deadly with the flip flops . They're more of a nuisance than a threat, but we ain't taking no chances.
