2017.9 Again Update overwrites factory templates

Not a major issue, but this happened in 2017.08 and now again...

Running the update and I found my basic template overwritten.

Only took a few minutes for me to edit it and this time I will create a copy with another name and set it as my default so this won't happen again.

I guess you're assuming that people don't edit the factory supplied templates and use them that way as opposed to renaming them once edited... I won't do that anymore...

Change the template folder path in Preferences > File > Folder Locations. The installer always writes to the default

Thanks Steve...

Good idea... but as i only modified the Basic template, I've now created a copy, edited and named My Basic and set it as default.

Now if/when factory are overwritten, mine won't be.

Your suggestion would be a great alterative if I had many such templates...

Yeah you have to use your own names or you'll lose your changes.  I have a batch file that deletes all the Cakewalk templates that I run after I do every update, since it "restores" them also.

Interesting...

2017.8 was the first time i recall it doing so to me.

Thankfully i use all my own templates except for the basic.cwt but I've now made my own as default so it will never again matter... 👽

If the template selection dialog supported sub-directories I'd be happy.  If the Drum Map selection dialog also supported sub-directories I'd be really happy.  But no.  I have about 10 personal templates but every update SONAR puts its starter templates back, making that flat list a giant mess.

You might rename them. Are you doing that? It overwrites the factory with factory.

Do your modifications followed by save as then supply a name of your own chosing.

...or are yours getting deleted?

I also use a custom path for drum maps. No need to rename or worry about installers overwriting anything.

That's correct. Every update before .8 left the templates as they were, but .8 overwrote them. I've had the same customised normal template since X2.
