"Oslo, Norway (CNN) -- Anders Behring Breivik, the man who killed 77 people in a bomb attack and gun rampage just over a year ago, was judged to be sane by a Norwegian court Friday, as he was sentenced to 21 years in prison."

21 years or 1,000; doesn't matter.  Neither will bring back the 77 lives he took.

I don't think the Norwegian system is being reported quite as accurately as it should be....as someone who is Norwegian pointed out to me earlier, what this means is that after 21 years he will be reassessed to see if he's still a danger to the public - if so, he'll continue to be locked up. However given the lily-liveredness of a lot of judges these days, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they announce that he's made a complete turnaround in jail and is keen to get out to start his new career in child care. Let's face it all he has to do is write a kid's book and promise to deliver a series of educational lectures to the local kids to persuade them to stay away from gangs.

If that is the law in their country, we should respect it..  imho.   If you read the articles, instead of the headlines, than you would also notice, "its highly unlikely this guy will walk free ever again." I'm very sorry for the victims, and their families.  As sorry as I am for the Temple and Batman and Empire State Building shootings...

We live in a violent world..  and something must be done to stop violence, across the world!

War, random acts of violence need to end.

BTW..  I was born and raised in NY..   You better be doing something a lot more than POT if you want 21 years in prison...  Unless you are, "absolutely rude and stupid," a police officer is going to be hard pressed to write you a ticket for a small amount of pot...

Yeah even smoking in public rarely results in more than a simple desk ticket. Unless of course you have prior. A NYPD cop once told me that the reason why they concentrate so much effort on busting people for trivial misdemeanors (pot, jumping turnstiles etc) is because more often than not, the perps have outstanding warrants on them - frequently for very serious crimes like robbery and murder. He told me that they once busted a turnstile jumper who had $20,000 on him from bank robbery he'd just committed. Rather than shelling out some of the loot for a taxi (or even a subway ticket), the moron instinct in him was just too strong and he jumped the turnstile.

right, so if law is stupid we should accept stupidity? I don't think so.

    p.s.
I was exaggerating with NY pot smoking to get a point, but it's very easy there to get many years on prison for drug possession
    especially when this is recurrent.
