24 bit to 16 bit...please help

hello. recently i bought some drum loops through betamonkey. they sent me a set of 4 discs, and apparently 2 of them were 16 bit samples and the other 2 were 24. they all work great with gtp3, but my problem is that apparently windows media player will not play 24 bit samples. therefore when i copy the loops from the 24 bit discs i cannot preview them without dragging them in and copying them into gtp 3's edit screen. this is a cumbersome way of figuring out which loop i might want to use. it's much easier to be able to listen to them in windows media player without having to bring them into gtp3. i heard something about a "batch conversion" process where i could convert all of the 24 bit samples to 16 at once. i realize this may not be the best solution as far as sound quality, but i am not trying to produce songs for major labels, just some good recordings for demos and 16 bit is indiscernable for my loud-music deafened ears. anyways, does anyone know an easy way to solve my problem and to convert the 24's to 16's. i am not the most computer saavy guy out there, so if you could pretend you're dealing with a complete idiot i would most appreciate it! thanks so much for any help in advance!!!!!!!!!

WaveLab, Audition, Goldwave and Soundforge will all "batch convert" files - basically just take each file one by one and convert it from one format to another - but automatically... so you don't have to do any work!

It's likely that there are loads of free batch converters too - just google it and see what turns up.

    Good luck

WMP 10 does have 24bit support if your audio drivers are 24bit. I have to admit that it is easier to audtition sounds in WMP than to import them into a sequencer. I would be wary of converting 24bit files to 16bit without using good program with a decent dithering algorithm.
