Does anyone know where I can get a 24bit generic usb audio driver, the 16bit one is all that seems to be showing up, in the select panel

    If you are talking about a USB driver for an audio interface that you have, the interface manufacturer must provide it. There is no such thing as a generic USB driver--typically they are buit into firmware of the physical device and loaded when the USB plug is connected and the device is turned on. More complicated device drivers for USB hardware must be installed from a disk or download. What you need to look for is a setting in hardware or software for your interface that lets you set the bit depth. What is it that you are connecting via USB?

    Thanks pwal, I guess with asio only one driver at a time can be used, guess I'll have to figure out some other work around, to use an external usb device with my existing system

    Since When ??? Asio is 16/24/32 and WDM is the same depending on the Hardware. If it were true then all the Users on this Forum who use WDM would be limited to 16bit??? They would be ****ing big time if this was the case.

    Windows Does have Generic USB Drivers but AFAIK they are only 16bit. If you need higher you have to go to your Manufacturer.

    Windows 7 Professional  64 bit - Intel Q-9550 2.83 CPU, 8Gb DDR800, Gigabyte EP35-DS3R, M-Audio Delta 44, Yamaha HS-80M Monitors, UAD-1 Ultra Pack

    The SINCE WHEN was a rhetorical Question, you shouldn't be advising people that ASIO is 24bit and WDM is 16bit. It's wrong. I didn't answer my own question, I was clarifying your nuggets of wisdom, which were wrong.

    With some USB audio devices, you'll need to change a value in Sonar's aud.ini. It's explained in your Quick Start guide.

    USBAudio Class System Driver

    The USBAudio class system driver (Usbaudio.sys) is an AVStream minidriver that provides driver support for USB Audio devices that comply with the Universal Serial Bus Device Class Definition for Audio Devices (release 1.0). This specification is available at the USB Implementers Forum Web site. The USBAudio driver supports a subset of the features that are described in the USB Audio specification.

    The USBAudio driver for Windows 98 introduced support for USB devices such as speakers and microphones. Support for MIDI devices was added in Windows Me.

    When an audio device identifies itself as USB Audio-compliant during Plug and Play device enumeration, the system automatically loads the USBAudio driver to drive the device. USBAudio drives the device directly, without the aid of a proprietary adapter driver. This means that a device that complies with the USB audio specifications requires no proprietary adapter driver.

    Microsoft recommends that hardware vendors use the USBAudio driver for their USB Audio devices instead of writing proprietary adapter drivers.

    In Windows 98, the USBAudio driver supports the following features:

    * All Type I formats (except 8-bit signed PCM)
    * AC-3 Type II format
    * Synchronization types synchronous and adaptive
    * Multichannel devices

    However, USBAudio in Windows 98 does not support:

    * 8-bit signed PCM format
    * MPEG Type II format
    * Type III formats
    * USB MIDI
    * WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE wave format (USBAudio uses packed WAVE_FORMAT_PCM for 24-bit data instead.)

    In Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), Windows Me, and Windows 2000 and later, USBAudio supports all the same features as Windows 98, with one exception: USBAudio supports WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE but does not support packed WAVE_FORMAT_PCM for 24-bit data.

    In Windows Me, and Windows XP and later, USBAudio supports all the features that are supported in Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000. In addition, Windows Me and Windows XP support USB MIDI but do not support USB MIDI Elements.

    So, if I'm right, you just need to have right type of data to get 24-bit ...
