2nd Day Air

This is called "2nd Day Air". First one done completely in X1b. Here we go. Thank you Danny Danzi for your guidance bro.  I've dialed back some of the synth guitar harshness as per many requests, OUCH.
The lyrics are below (if you want to sing along)
 http://www.ourstage.com/profile/twisted6s/songs

2nd Day Air
Tony Pruden

Did the sunrise
Give me the light of clarity
I opened my eyes
You are the only one I see
In one night I felt your gravity
Pulling me to the morning sky

Now I’m breathing
All this second day air
Glowing in the morning after sun
Blowing past
One evening lasting affair
Showing me I truly found the one

Whispered our dreams
Freeing our secrets before the light
Promising themes
Sealing with kisses that set us in flight
And as they say the rest is history
A million days began as one

Now I’m breathing
All this second day air
Glowing in the morning after sun
Blowing past
One evening lasting affair
Showing me I truly found the one

Now I’m breathing
All this second day air
(I’m soaring, I’m flying baby)
Glowing in the morning after sun
(I’m soaring girl, I’m flying baby, hey,
Yeah…)
Blowing past
One evening lasting affair
(I’m soaring so high, so high)
Showing me I truly found the one

Hi Tony, nice uplifting song and excellent vocals, very professional sounding. One little nitpick is the distorted guitar , sounds to distorted and un-guitarlike , if that's a real guitar ?

fab. I personally just enjoyed the bounce of the groove and the brass touch. Oh and the final vocal adlibs.

Well done tony, always a pleasure to check out your tunes.

Whoa, Tony hits another one out of the park.  VERY catchy tune there, great track and, as always, a superb vocal performance.  I'm a fan.

Just wonderin' how come you didn't ask me to help out on those high harmonies

Nice stuff Tony.. Love your voice. Really unique concept. I must say that the guit sounds wrong or something. Maybe too brittle or something. Is that a real guit? Love the horn lines.

Except for the digital, buzz saw sounding guitar, of course. I'd be happy to do the guitar fills if you'd like.

Goods stuff. Vocals are wonderful – it always a treat to hear vocals that appear to be effortless (I say appear because I have no idea how much work went into them – I would think lots of work). I like the tune also, nice idea with the lyrics, a simple but hypnotic little melody – a solid pop groove. As others have said the guitar seems a little out of place. If I was the Kings Of Songs I would say “Tony this is very good, but I command you to write a middle section to add a bit of variation.”. I am not the King, so I’ll leave it with – good going, terrific job.

EXCELLENT work Tony! Very cool 60's vibe I'm getting with those piano riffs. Reminds me of a band called "JELLYFISH". Love the muffled snare tone only adds to that vibe. As always your vox and harmonies are PERFECTO. I don't have a problem with the guitar I kinda lick it. I think I would EQ it a different way to change the way it sits and sounds in the mix. GREAT mix, cool hook, whats not to like. KUDOS, Tony!

Hi Tony, sorry to nitpick again but that "guitar" is still pretty grating, especially in the solo. More compression and less distortion and if possible less attack on the synth would help. As is it clashes with the rest of the piece, imho.

Totally loved this tune from the first time I heard it, Tony. Good melodies, arrangement, hook, killer vocals...it just hits me with all the right stuff. The guitar part didn't bother me at all. I sometimes wish I heard what other people heard, but nothing in this sticks out to me as harsh, abrasive or degrading to the song. When we can't physically play an instrument or may not have the resources to make things more realistic, we do the best that we can. Sometimes we also don't wish to reach out to others because we don't like to rely on people or even bother them for certain things. I salute you for doing the best you could with what you had to work with. At first when I heard this, the guitar nearly fooled me...but I had to listen close to it and at the time, I was listening to the song as a whole.

When I listen to something I have learned something important. I never try to produce a song in my own image or speak about what I think it should be. That to me kills the art inside the song. However, if something blatantly grabs me as wrong, or has errors, then I comment a bit differently. We can probably rip apart tunes done by pro's that we are not down with as far as instrument selection goes. I try to ignore all that stuff because it wasn't my choice to choose those instruments. That choice was a form of art from those that were involved in the creation process. For example, one of my pet peeves is velocity control on drums. I don't care how bad a drum sound is...but it can't be out of time and it can't have all the velocities set at 127 or I scream like a lil gurl. LOL! I hate vocal sibilance...I hate sub low bass where it shouldn't be...I hate harsh high end that makes cymbals sound like they are ssssssssssssssssssssss like a snake. See that stuff to me is more "error" than "artistic so I comment on it. I don't hear anything like that in your tune...and it's all completely audible to me.

All of the above said, if I were you, I wouldn't be offended by any of the guitar comments. I would hope that you have thick skin to handle stuff like that since we do risk that type of thing when we post up a song. Hence why I never post material up here. LOL! Thick skin I have...voices for the sake of voices....I have no time for. ;) I think you did a fantastic job on this. Simple yet effective, infectious hook, killer vocals and nothing instrumentally wrong that someone that IS someone in the industry couldn't fix. :) That's one of the drawbacks when we may be limited at times to the instruments we can't play. We are forced to work with what we have and experiment. Sometimes you eat the bear, other times the bear eats you. You got the song idea out using the capabilities you can use that aren't over your means. I say job well done brother...high 5! :)

Rik: Like a newbee, I got rid of my midi track that drove my synth so all I have is the audio with that distortion applied. I hear what you're saying about the distortion but if I'm being honest it's really the only way I hear it in my song and at least for now I believe it DOES work in the mix (and I'm much too lazy to do it again) But again I do thank you for your comments and that you listened to my song brother.
Danny: You are too cool for school..(and toooo talented) Love ya bro!!!
Janet: Thank you soooooo much (you're my target audience for this one
Kev: Thank you brother for the nice words, keep it funky bro
Manny: You're right my friend, alot of work goes into making something sound effrotless, the chord changes under the guitar solo was my attempt at the middle section change. Thanks for listening my friend.

    Hey Tony,

Great tune.  I really like the melody, fantastic harmonies.  Overall, a song I could hear on the radio.  Horns are reminiscent of the horns on "Sweet Caroline".  If I may be so bold, two things I would change in the song:

    1)  the four-note riff at the beginning should have a different sound or different instrument other than the guitar with the buzz overdrive.  It doesn't cut through enough, especially when it's behind the horns.

    2) I'm not sure if I was hearing another guitar riff behind the first guitar, sounded like a picking riff.  If it's there, then it will have to come up in the mix.

    keep up the great work.

Marvelous set of pipes, Tony. This is a piece of "pop pleasure". Sweet, airy mix. I think the "guitar" tone is fine. If it troubles you, just a little pitch bend might make it better. Tasty horn parts. I even like the fade out. Great songwriing, reminds me of the Turtles meets Chicago............very classy...............Ron

Very memorable song too, top job all round.

Tony, this is just your style.  Such a fine song. I l love the Bacharach-David trumpet part. You've got that modern Mo-Town fiber that just binds to your tunes together fantastically. Your singing is impeccable.  Great stuff once again. I'll also note that I'm not totally crazy about the guitar sound, but there's something special and unique about it that makes it work.

I love the bouncy sound you have going on man, that is cool!!!

I am a guitarist, or so I like to think I am.

The short lead guitar you added to this has a metal clanging sound going on with it.  I can do better, trust me on this one. Or at least give me a chance if you dare to do so.

Dang man, everything you do sounds great!!! Check out my latest tune if ya wanna sing hard rock.

Whatever the case, I loved this!!!!!!!!!! You are somebody that I have been screaming for a long time that needs to be heard by everyone everywhere!!!!!!!

    Take care,

As usual, another great Tony tune. Great arrangement, vocals, Prince meets Chicago.

My only thought would be to warm it up a bit; kinda sounds a bit too digital, if ya know what I mean. And the song could come across more if there was some warm harmonic distortion.

    Awesome.
