32 bit pluggin not available in 64 bit Sonar

I'm trying to use 64 bit Sonar after using 32 bit. I'm wondering if there's a way to get Cakewalk FxChorus to work in 64 bit. When I run VST Scan I get this error message:

THIS PLUGIN IS ONLY  LICENSED TO BE USED IN  SONAR. AN UNRESTRICTED VERSION CAN BE PURCHASED AT BY DSPFX.COM

When I load a project in that uses this pluggin it comes up as "missing". I thought bit-bridge would get all 32 bit pluggins to work. I'm assuming that bit-bridge is working in the background to do these sorts of things. Am I wrong and am I supposed to manually run bit-bridge and somehow fix this?

Any tips or clarification of all this would be so appreciated.

The DSP-FX Chorus is a 32bit DirectX plug-in. There is no bridge for DirectX plug-ins so they typically do not get installed with a 64bit version of SONAR and would not appear if installed. DirectX plug-ins should not be in the VST scan path.

BitBridge works with 32bit VST plug-ins only.

There is a chance 32bit DirectX plug-ins may load in BitBridge by first wrapping the plug-ins in a DX-to-VST wrapper. See this thread about using a wrapper to load 32bit DirectX plug-ins http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3100550

The best solution when running 64bit SONAR is to avoid 32bit VST plug-ins when possible and forget about 32bit DirectX plug-ins. Use 32bit plug-ins in 32bit SONAR. Both versions of SONAR can be installed on the same machine.

    Hello everyone, and good morning!

Scook, does this mean that effect suites like the Sonitus:fx won't work with the soon to be released Sonar suite? I've found that to be quite useful, and hope that they're still usable!
Apologies if I'm simply overlooking the obvious or confusing things, as is the case from time to time.

    Thanks, and take care!

The Sonitus fx included with Sonar have been upgraded to x64 bit DX plugins.

The Sonitus fx have been 64 but as long, as Sonar has been 64 bit.

A while back they included some fx that were part of Project V and some of those remain 32 bit DX plugins that don't work as scook already mentioned.

Try the wrappers. I have a wrapper that's no longer available that allows me to wrap a 32 bit DX plugin which can then be bridged by BitBridge. Not recommended unless it's an absolutely necessary DX plugin.

    I tried this wrapper
    http://xlutop.com/buzz/zip/dxshell_v1.0.4b.zip
and either I'm not understanding how to use it or it won't work with FxChorus.Ax

    Here's the readme file instructions:

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--==
    - dxshell.dll, a wrapper for directx effects(dx) for use in vst host applications.
    - dxishell.dll, a wrapper for directx instruments(dxi) plugins for use in vst host applications.
    - mfxshell.dll, a wrapper for midi fx plugins(mfx) for use in vst host applications, beware that not all mfx plugins may work with this wrapper.
    - shell2vst.zip, a small tool which is able to convert so called "shell vsts" to standard vsts.
    - this readme.txt

    How to use:

    1. Copy the dll files to your vst plugins folder.
    2. If your host directly supports shell vst you are ready to use them from now :), if not you have to convert them at first with the shell2vst tool I mentioned above.

Currently the following hosts are supporting shell plugins, perhaps there some others too:

    - Cubase SX
    - Renoise
    - Kore2
    - Temper
    - Reaper
    - Buzz
    - Tracktion
    - Aodix
    - Vsthost
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=

Sonar is not listed in the list, but I'm using waveshell.dll already. So it seems it should be in the list. It turns out those DLLs were already in C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins since 2010.
Since some of these new files were larger i thought they were more recent, so I copied them into the folder to see if they would help

FxCHORUS.AX   is in this folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Plugins
I'm beginning to wonder if there is a different problem going on here. Remember the error message I got in my original post.
When I run VST Scan I get this error message:
THIS PLUGIN IS ONLY  LICENSED TO BE USED IN  SONAR. AN UNRESTRICTED VERSION CAN BE PURCHASED AT BY DSPFX.COM

This pluggin works fine with 32 bit, but I get that error message in 64 bit
    I'm baffled

I don't have a 32bit installation on my machine. Did not realize the plug-in was not a dll. No help for FxChorus.Ax I'm afraid. Not going to get that one to work in 64bit SONAR. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Plugins" should not be in the VST scan path. All the plug-ins installed by SONAR in that path are DirectX format. The VST scanner does not work with DirexctX plug-ins.

There are plenty of modern chorus options in SONAR these days. Some 32-bit plug-ins will never work in a 64-bit system.

I think Wolfgang Kundrus, who was a part of Studio One's dev team, gave the definitive comment on 32-bit/64-bit in a Q&A at PreSonuSphere. When someone asked him what the answer was for using 32-bit plug-in in 64-bit SOP, he said "Bridging is a flawed technology. Tell the company to make 64-bit versions."

Well I guess that puts in the nail in the coffin for FxCHORUS.AX in 64 bit Sonar

I think the only 64 bit chorus in Sonar is BT Analog Chorus CH2S-3.dll

    Any others?

I've been using the Lexicon Pantheon reverb for years, it's a DX pluggin. They've upgraded it to 64 bit. I see it in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Plugins

Is it ok to use the 64 bit DX pluggins that I find in the folder? Does it look like they'll be phased out?

The Sonitus Modulator and MultiVoice Chorus/Flanger are quite useful.

DirectX is a "zombie" format - it died a while ago, but still lives. Some DAWs don't support it at all any more, others do. SONAR continues to support DirectX and I don't see that changing for at least a while. Sony, Samplitude, and Acoustica among others stlll support it.

The 64bit DX plug-ins should work OK. But as Craig indicates, it is a legacy format.

In addition to the Sonitus and Cakewalk chorus plug-ins (both DX by the way), there is a chorus included in TH2 Producer.

There are plenty of free chorus plug-ins on the net. Acon Digital Multiply is a nice one.

FWIW, I've never been able to get .AX format DX plugins to work in a wrapper/bridged fashion, only .DLL.  It's a tradeoff.
