32-bit vs 64-bit for FX plugins... Need for bridging?

So we know that 32-bit VST synths have a problem running on SONAR 64-bit, which is why they use things like BitBridge or Jbridge to bridge it.

But what about 32-bit VST effects? Can they remain in 32-bit? Is it necessary to bridge them to 64-bit with Jbridge?

Its not synths or audio effects that is the problem its being 32 bit in a 64 bit world.

32 bit plugins of any sort work under bitbridge in Sonar X1 64 bit just fine. Its only a very few that wont. That is because they are nominally VSTs.

You're right... I didn't realize that SONAR opened FX VSTs via BitBridge like it does with synth VSTs.

As long as BitBridge does a good job handling 32-bit synth vst's, thats good.

Because BitBridge does a bad job with Synth VSTs...it creates delay in playback as you increase latency. So I have to buy Jbridge and use that for synth vst's instead of BitBridge. Just making sure I don't have to use JBridge for FX vsts as well, and just let SONAR's bitbridge handle the FX vsts.

Bitbridge has very little to do with latency if anything. Latency is an audio driver issue.

Every synth I have that is bitbridged works just fine.

These two videos by the Celemony's software architect Carsten Gehle that do a great job of explaining both the benefits of x64 and how bridging works and some of it's drawbacks.  Very much worth watching.  It is in German, but overdubbed in English.

i will sure be happy when all this bridge rendering stuff is over. i truly beleive its the cause of many issues. and i put alot of blame on the big boys like ProTools, UA and Waves. since 2008 they keep saying 64bit is coming next year. i garuntee any issue a experienced DAW user in 64bit has today, will be because of a certain plug-in...

Had not seen those Melodyne Vid's, thanks.  With Waves 9 being 64bit we have one less 32bit plugin to deal with.  ; )

I'm very happy I didn't jump on the 64bit bandwagon so quickly (sorry FREDDIE H. LOL) because I am in the process of assembling my hot/new DAW and I am going as much 64bit as possible so I can avoid bridging at all if possible.

Forunately all the plugins I use/like/love are already fully 64bit, so I think I'll be in good shape.

the transition to 64 was smooth in the begining..bitbridge is iffy and sometimey...my vst scans are a nightmare..during the scan all my 3rd party instruments load in 64bit.. but my audio fx load in 32bit..everytime i buy or download something new,(DAWrelated) and run a scan i will lose vital 3rd party plugs...

I don't use SONAR's Bitbridge at all. I found it didn't reliably work with all my 32 bit plugins so had a mix of jBridge and BitBridge. After some experimenting I found that I was better off sticking exclusively to jBridge as its updated regularly and we can communicate with the developer and ask for features and or report bugs which he addresses fairly promptly. With Birbridge there's no idea whether it has had any updates done to it or not.

So now I only use jBridge (for 2 years) and as SONAR allows you to select that internally there's no problem at all in running it that way.

Whether its a VST or VSTi doesn't make any difference. Since I've stuck with jBridge alone I haven't had any probs with 32 bit plugins in SONAR X1 x64 Expanded.
