'Noah, Abel and Me'

A new song by Tim Wilkinson, a favourite of mine, and I finally got to add some guitar to it. A little 'Acrobat's Supper' reunion then, for those that remember

Noah, Abel and Me
Tim - vocals and acoustic guitar
Me - electric guitar

Edit to add lyrics;

Noah, Abel
And me we were brothers
Of the chalkhills, we were ploughmen
We worked the furrow's run

And the curl of our blade
Unfolded how the world was made
We unstitched the hillside for a working day's wage

All the flowers of the flood
All the stars of the sea
Ghosts of weird fishes
Saw Noah, Abel and me

At the pace of a walk
We struck free from the flint and the
Chalk and the stone, blood over bone
We struck free from the flint and blood and the bone

And the earth she fell open
The earth she fell open
The earth she fell open
With a sigh and a moan

All the flowers of the flood
All the stars of the sea
Ghosts of weird fishes
Saw Noah, Abel and me

Pin a star to the sky
For each day that's gone by
Since the chalk giant swam
In a warm shallow ocean
Looking up at a far younger heaven

Noah, Abel
And me we were brothers
Of the chalkhills, we were ploughmen
We worked the furrow's run

All the flowers of the flood
All the stars of the sea
Ghosts of weird fishes
My brothers and me

All the flowers of the flood
All the stars of the sea
Ghosts of weird fishes
Saw Noah, Abel and me
Saw Noah, Abel and me
Saw Noah, Abel and me

I like the song James.  I am on laptop speakers right now, so I can't really comment on the mix, or anything.  Good work!

Very nice song, James.  I like Tim's voice, but the vocal sounded a might hot thru the pc speaks, like maybe it needed some compression or limiting.

James, this is a terrific song.  The vocal was heartfelt, and I was reminded of Peter Gabriel.  The acoustic was well played and recorded as usual.  It was a good way to start this holiday.

    All the best,

    Thank you.

Those guitars sounds lovely, but it sounds like a pretty noisy environment they're recorded in. I could hear some hiss or maybe DAW fans or something. But it's a minor point. I really enjoyed this James.

    Hi James,
I really like this one. The vocalist is good, and more importantly, interesting. I totally see the Peter Gabriel comparison. I might try a bit more verb on his voice, but that's an aesthetic choice (and it might not work anyway )

Nice song guys, but I think the guitar is a bit up front and could be back some. Also maybe some panning on the vocals or the guitar, as they sound like they are using some of the same space. I listened through my headset and it was quite loud. Great song, but just needs a tweak here and there. Thanks for sharing. Peace be with you both. Blessings, John

I recall the first time I heard an Acrobat's Supper" song (something about a hill or some such). Was mightily impressed then, still am now. I think the mix is stellar for the song... song is stellar for the mix... whatever... its all good .

Thanks Richard! Yeah, he's good eh?

Robby, you're welcome. To be honest I'm not sure where Tim recorded the vocals and guitar, but the performance is great so..

Thanks Dean, I did try a little more reverb but it washed the vocal out too much, so I backed it off again. Glad you enjoyed this.

well you know my feelings on AS, James! this is a risk in essentially being one tune through the whole thing, and i think you guys pull it off due to the clever use of orchestration and dynamics. i really would love to hear Tim in a prog-rock setting, it'd be great to hear those fragile vocals stretched a little...but i guess that will never be. still, a welcome return and lets hope not a one-off - and be nice to get Larry onboard to add some acoustic flourish.

Hey James, I can appreciate the talent, I like the vocal, reminds me of Peter Gabrial.

I would have to be in the mood to listen to this and go I like it but again I am being picky.  I would have to be in that reflective mood.

But because I have picked up the fact it is a reflective song means you have managed to convey the mood really effectivly.

I actually like the hiss in the background, it gives the track a realness about it, a strange warmth almost like it is tape hiss.

Apart from my grumpy old man pickiness, I think you have a real winner.

    Peace Ben

Very nice.  The lyrics reminded me of other UK artists, like Jethro Tull.  I'm always impressed the UK musicians are much more in touch with the folk music of thier country.  Where in the US, ande especially amoung young rockers, folk and roots music is largely avoided because they are afraid to be associated with anything outside their genre.  Whereas, in England, Ireland, and Scottland, it appears that even the young musicians openly embrace thier past.

    Well done as always!

Mark - so, to recap, it's a boring song, you'd rather we did prog anyway, and Larry should play the acoustic. Thanks...

Love the tune James...mix is solid, playing rocks...you and this dude make a great team. No comments from me on this one brother...it's fine as it is. Well done. The guitar textures you added behind are a nice touch...almost synthy like. Totally enjoyed this. :)

Thanks James, appreciate the listen, glad you liked it.

Thank you Daryl..it seems there has been quite a resurgence in folk music here in the last couple of decades, lots of very cool stuff going on. Tim plays out in his local area and is going down well by all accounts. I hope to 'guest' on a couple of numbers one day.

    Thanks Tim!

Jan - hope that's 'good wow'.. Thanks for checking this out.

That's a nice comparison Rik, thanks. I like Gaughan's stuff, especially with Five Hand Reel many years ago, but yes, he is very Scots..
