'Shaking The Ladder'

Hi folks, new version of an instrumental (apart from a few singing monks ) for your delectation. Once again, my thanks to Ed 'Bapu' Kocol for supplying most excellent bass.

    James,

Very nice! Love the guitar tones used on this. My only mix crit is that the main drum kit and percussion (not the L/R toms) sound like they are really far away, while the guitars sound much closer to the listener. I'd suggest going for a more cohesive mix, IMO.

We're trying to keep the drummer away from the singer as he, the drummer that is, keeps trying to steal the singer's girlfriend.

Not a level imbalance, perceived distance. Partly, EQ can help resolve it, though it may take more than that to tie everything together.

Hi James, nice one! My first thought was of the Craig Chaquico album I absolutely wore out in the early '90's , just your instrumentation and mix brought it to mind - your song is a great listen, and I always appreciate and envy the clarity you have in your mixes.

I also noticed the drums seemed relegated to the back of the room, but it didn't seem a problem because I felt this is a guitar song, featuring guitar, with a special guest appearance by some guitar. Excellent guitar throughout btw so the drums were just sort of a necessary foundation for me. They're not featured in any way, are they?

    thanks, nice work here.

That was pretty cool...   I really enjoyed the change-up in the middle section from the surrounding bookends.  Great way to change moods without sounding like a different tune.   Great work all around from performance to mix.    Oh, and the monks rock.

    Hi, James,

It's been a while since I've been back here on the forum, and this classy instrumental is just the welcome I need to remind to check in here more often!

Lovely melodies, exquisite guitar tones, and tasty playing, as always from you, and our buddy, Bapsi did a dynamite job on the bass, too boot!  The mix sounds absolutely perfect to me, and the monks were an interesting element to break up the passages, very nice!

Excellent job, guys, another sonic gem!

Thanks Steve! I must try and break out of my standard ''first bit/2nd bit/different bit/repeat first & 2nd bit/fade '' scenario on the next one . Glad you enjoyed it.

    Bob

Thanks Bob! You're a pal, that's very encouraging.

    Hi James,

I've always liked the way you play guitar

You always have a real nice tone . You always play simple tasty guitar parts that fit better than anything that would be more complex in a guitar part and you play melodic singing expressive guitar tones....

Ed's Bass playing sounds fantastic in the funky section ..

    all the best,

    Kenny
