'The Man Who Would Win Back Your Heart'
Been a long time, but here's a new Nettlesmith song; The Man Who Would Win Back Your Heart Tim Wilkinson - lead and backing vocals, banjaxe (banjo/resonator), percussion Me - electric guitars, organ, mixing The Man Who Would Win Back Your Heart - Tim Wilkinson If I were a cowboy upon the great plainsDriving the beef before the age of the trainsAnd our trail it caught up with a travelling showI'd join it to see where they'd go If I were a ploughman so far from the seaWhite seagulls are following my team and meAnd one day the press-gang they took me awayI'd join Nelson's navy for a shilling a day None of these things would I normally tryI'm just talking tall I'm just stretching my eyeBut in search of clue I would leave all I knowIf it helped me to find you I'd give it a go And one day years from now I'd show up at your doorAs a cowboy, a ploughman, a pirate for sureWhatever it was I'd be dressed for the partOf the man who would win back your heart Imagine a steamboat in the days of Mark Twain And I'm up on the bridge with him watching the rainAnd the old pilot says 'Ain't you been here before?Son, you should know every yard of this shore'' None of these things would I normally tryI'm just talking tall, I'm just stretching my eyeBut in search of clue I would leave all I knowIf it helped me to find you I'd give it a go And one day years from now I'd show up at your doorAs a cowboy, a ploughman, a pirate for sureWhatever it was I'd be dressed for the partOf the man who would win back your heart Whatever it was I'd be dressed for the partOf the man who would win back your heart Look forward to any comments and critiques as always!

But you might want to remove one of those "backs" in the title before it drives my tiny OCD brain over the edge.

Crap, this is good. I echo everyone else's kudos! Mix-wise, what about a little lower volume, or some chorus or more reverb treatment, of that appegiated guitar in the first half of the song? I found it kind of poking out, maybe just a little less high end frequency eq? It competes with the excellent vocals, you might volume automate it down a little more while the vocals are doing their thing. Muy Bueno. -Tom

This is excellent! The vocals are great and the backing vocals as well. The only thing, for me, was I thought it should have been limited to acoustic guitars. The percussion was very nice but I thought the lead just stuck out. Either way, excellent song!!!

how can you be so good at nailing the English folk sound and then at the drop of a hat nail the US folk sound too? great playing and such intelligent lyrics. the mix is your usual model of clarity. love how you switch the backing to electric guitar briefly after the solo. perhaps the ending/final chorus could be a bit bigger with a change in percussion would be my only thought.

Thanks Tom. Are you talking about the fingerpicked 'banjaxe' that starts the song, or the 2 panned electric guitars doing the ostinato arpgeggios?
