3rd monitor

I have a dual monitor video card, I would like to add a 3rd monitor, should I buy an additional video card? What would be the best solution? 

P6T Motherboard i7, 12 GIG RAM    
MOTU 828 firewire interface
CAKEWALK UM-2G MIDI Interface
EDIROL  PCR-M30
MACKIE Control Surface
BERINGER B2031A

    I'd vote for just upgrading to one with 3 outputs. At least you would be safe to know it will work.

    Not all of them allow all 3 connections to send video though. A lot will limit you to two. Make sure the specs say that all 3 will work otherwise look at getting 2 graphics cards.

    FWIW, If you've got the space... and want 3 video monitors... I'd get a 2nd video card (which would allow you to run up to 4 video monitors).
     
    Yes, you can get triple-head cards...
    But they tend to be more expensive... and are typically not available passive cooled (no fan).
     
    For DAW purposes, I'd opt for two passive cooled cards...

    If possible, get the same model of graphics cards and monitor as your existing ones.  Otherwise there will always be a difference between the images on the different screens.  Even though these settings are adjustable, it is never possible to make one screen image look exactly like another.

    @trane43, i found something called "usb vga multi monitor external video adapter" it can connect up to 3 monitors with different contents like normal vga cards, i dont know if it help or not, i cant find more details about its performance check this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GlOy60-fpc

    @Kev999 Good point! I could see 2 different monitors being a pain making them look similar!
    My previous setup consisted of 2 monitors of different sizes with different resolutions and different aspect ratios (24" 1920x1200 and 19" 1280x1024).  These differences bothered me a lot less than the difference between the colours on the 2 screens.
