40 foot double wide- a little slide mayhem

It's been a long time since I posted a song here.
With this one I'm celebrating a few firsts.
First X3 project to near completion.
First song with my new Epiphone Riviera P93.
First song since the pit bull got ahold of my pickin' hand. I feel really good about that.
First vocal track from me. Sorry 'bout that, but it needed the words.
The inspiration for this tune was the backwater areas around Azle, Texas that I travel in my day job as a cable technician.
I love that area, and the people there are much more relaxed than what I find in Fort Worth.
It still needs a little work, but here ya go:

I love it!! I'm a big fan of rocking blues/slide guitar/train beats and you've got a very good thing going here Bob....a very "live" feel to it. It'll really fill up the space once you put a bass track to it. Glad to see you've recovered from the dog bite.......now, we get hear the bite in the dog!!!

    Thanks, guys.
Yeah, Herb, you gotta love 'em. it's such a classic picture, but I have to laugh when I pull up to a place and they really have mowed around the cars in the yard. No HOA's around here.
Good people, though. They appreciate that I give them my all, and routinely send me home with fresh eggs, home-made sausage, or a standing invite to stop by for coffee.

Mesh, one of my co-workers plays bass, and we have been trying to get together for a while now. We both work crazy hours, so it has been challenging. He's not set up for recording, so it's a matter of getting him here. I agree that will add a lot.
I'm also a big fan of train beats, and my biggest problem with this project has been that I slide into the groove and forget to hit the record button.

Ruben, glad you liked it. I was extremely reluctant to do that vocal part, but I just had to suck it up and do it because it was a key element in this song.

Thanks again for checking this out.

Well a new Robert B tune certainly merits a listen! Good groove Bob, easy to tell you enjoyed yourself here. To make this shine I think you need to place the vocal out of the way of the slide guitar, or duck the guitar under when voice is present, they clash occasionally. Oh, and get some bass in there.

    LOL, Robby. Thanks.
James, yes I was indeed having fun. I've been working on my slide technique quite a bit. The action on the Riviera is set fairly low. I just kiss the strings with my favorite stubby Pyrex slide. Any pressure at all, and you are bumping the frets.
I'm leaning toward your second suggestion, backing the guitar down some in those passages. Maybe even let the bass do some walking through there when we get it added in. I'm looking forward to making that session happen.

    Thanks Wookie. Non-point taken

Thanks Lynn. Go for it. I've got a bunch of slides, but this little Dunlop 204 is by far my favorite on the electrics.

Rimshot, good to see you. I sent my bass player this track, so hopefully, he is getting the itch to lay down a bass track for it.
I love a nice, dirty slide, and this  is a blast to play. Thanks.

Thanks, Steve. That means a  lot. The past few weeks have been a running battle finding the right tone for this.
I finally settled on a high gain, cleanish setting on my RP80, and moderately altered "Almost Texan" preset in ACME BarGig Shred. Too bad it's not available any more because I'd like to recommend it to people looking for amp sims.

I do have an Acme BarGig freebie, maybe Shred?, but I don't open it often.   I may have to do so again...

I think I also have that Acme BarGig (Shred + some others) buried somewhere in the HD and haven't used much of it accept to see how it sounds.

Robert, I gave this song another listen x2 and it's just a catchy piece of guitar work that keeps playing in my head. Good stuff!!

As the song played my smile got bigger and bigger! Plus head bobbin! When it finished you got a "HELL YEAH!" from me! Powerful feel there Bob! You have a fine voice for that style too so now that the ice is broken you can add vox as needed  .... the more I think about it you may be on to something with the sound .. more experimentation is needed!

I just got home from a grueling 15 hour day, and this was nice to see.
I think Danny was involved with Shred just before the Headcase project. It was a nice little freebie. Like many amp sims, a lot of the presets don't do anything for me, but it has a few that I really like. With a little tweaking, it does alright. It is 32 bit, and can be a bit cranky under bit bridge. I haven't tried J-Bridge yet. Still. it is one of my go-to's.

Mesh, glad you came back for more. This little tune is an absolute blast to play and I'm happy to see you enjoy listening to it.
Guido will have to stand down for a bit, though. My daughter is getting married the first week of September, and all projects are on hold until after that event. In the meantime, Dave is kicking around some bass lines.

Bill, you made my day. Thanks, bro.

GP, Thanks man. You know, I have a deep respect for vocalists, because I find it exceptionally difficult to listen to my own voice. Tom Petty, eh?  I'll take it.

Kenny, thanks man. I like the "primal" reference. I've been drawing some inspiration from the late R.L Burnside.
He had that, and I've tried to work some of his wonderfully gritty sound into my own playing.
I had to laugh at "civilized". Folks down here can peg me as being from Colorado in a heartbeat, but I can hear the Texan creeping into my speech.

Thanks Dan. I'm still learning, but I love that slide.

Love it!  Great slide work.  You sure got the "ya Buddy" feel in this number and I'm one who sure can appreciate "talkin' songs".  Ditto to the comments about your vocals -- on this number you do sound like Petty.

Heh heh, that is some fun stuff there Robert.  Don't sell yourself short on the vox, it fits the bill.  The slide guitar is awesome.  I guess this means your hand has healed well, I sure hope so.  Nice job, glad you were able to get it posted up for a listen.

Thanks for checking this out, Tony. I don't plan on doing a lot of vocals, but I am at least a bit more confident if the situation arises. Aside from a few scars, the hand is in great shape. Huge relief there.
It looks like a lot has happened here while I was in Oregon. I've got some catching up to do.

Ha, sounded really good.  Your voice seems totally suited to the vocal style you did.  It seems bass would be good but only in certain spots.  Seems like slide and percussion do just fine.  Maybe no bass when vocals are going and bass when they're not.  I was just jamming to it and something like that might work.  Actually stands good as is.  Nice hearing from you, buddy!

    G-Bro's, thanks.
Warren, good to see you, bud. I'll have to check out that tune you did with Robby, but I'm burning out tonight.
I'm inclined to agree that bass at the right spots would be good. Dave was kicking some ideas around while I was in Oregon. Now we just have to schedule some time for a jam session. I'm looking forward to it.
I love it when a song inspires me to grab my guitar, and I'm delighted to see you were jamming with my little tune.
    Thanks, man.

Great, fun tune. Awesome slide playing. All sounds good to me except the snare. Little too bright/harsh for my taste. Everything else is great.
