It's probably a lot more than 40 logged in because of all the people who have their profile set to show their offline (like me). The forum doesn't log people out though so many of those people are likely sleeping or just waking up.
As far as the 600 visitors... those are all bapu. Dude's just that talented.

yes, and there is an idle time when you've not posted or navigate (don't know which is the right criteria) which will show you as offline to everyone if you reach that time threshold (whatever that time is - probably something like 10 minutes or so). so if you're logged in and just leave the forum open you will appear offline if you don't do anything on the forum for 10 minutes or 20 minutes - whatever that time is.

It's bit more than that, but yes, there are multiple identities here and people tuned to certain threads, and the competition in DAW software, and the usual Trolls looking for something to carry off to their cave. Artist's are a weird bunch, and sometimes they don't want to be seen, and they see this forum and the internet as a connection they don't want. But it's all the same. You really have no clue who you're talking to anyway. The other poster could be right down the street, or really in the place they say they are. You and I do not have the resources to find out, so,... live with it. That's where we're at.
