Alfalfa sprouts, radishes, celery, berries, nuts ( no salted, sugar in a can grocery store treats ), fresh nuts from the produce section... and no more than a handful. You should have trouble gaining weight!! Btw, congrats on the iQuit, keep it up!!

I gave up smoking 15 years ago. For the first few days I had the most godawful headache which turned out to be my body craving sugar, I don't know why.

Congrats Craig! For the first time in my life, unlike my previous attempts, I did gain weight when I quit the last time. Though I did indulge in "less healthy" food for a while after I quit, even after resuming my healthier diet, the extra lbs don't seem to vanish as I would have expected. Which I guess is only normal - I'm not getting younger and my metabolism was bound to slow down eventually. Incidentally, if I'm not mistaken, nicotine does accelerate your metabolism, so even if you're not eating much more than you used to, it's possible that your system is just enjoying a break from the madness. I'm at 180, which is the heaviest I've in my life - actually what I used to weight when I was 16 and eating and drinking like a pig. At 6'3", 180 may not seem like much, but I definitely feel it. Fortunately, now that weather allows it and that we finally have a real schedule, I can pick up training again.

I stubbornly refused to lose weight, even while eating healthily and working out 5/6 times a week, until I gave up bread and started interval training. The pounds just slid off me. I lost 10lbs in a month.

congrats on quitting, craig! I quit 22 years ago after smoking 2 packs a day (and not those "girly" smokes, either!) but yeah, I gained weight, but I've struggled with my weight all of my life, so I can't say really that my weight gain was a direct result of my quitting.

Since I have some experience in this from the clinical side, I can tell you that a lot of that weight is probably water that your body needed. Smoking dehydrates you (just look at the skin of a life-long smoker !). There's also a sugar craving because tobacco is naturally bitter so the leaves are usually soaked in a 23% sugar solution which can give you that nice sugar/insulin response cycle (and partially explains why smokers have to light one up in fairly regular time intervals). The best thing to combat this is to eat some fruit. Either way, congratulations on your progress and keep reminding yourself that you are now a non-smoker. One last tip: Any time you see someone smoking, think of a cigarette or, really, any time you remember to, take a really deep breath in. Many people don't take enough deep breaths and your body will sometime trick you into doing this by giving you the craving for a cigarette. It's not optimal, but your body considers it a bit of a tradeoff because it really requires those deep breaths.

LOL I'm 5-7 and 178......... lol Strangely enough, even at 165, I never really looked like a toothpick - I guess it's the way that weight is distributed. Which means it can be a nightmare to try and buy off the rack clothes, even something s simple as a shirt. But yeah, obviously, there wasn't much fat.

Arrg!!!!!!! Arrg! is right bud. I had the worst craving yet today. They get the worst at about a month or so. I'm at twenty days. Borderline pain. There I was at the supermarket, my old brand of smokes staring me in the face. I swear I had one of those moments when something zooms in and you can feel the blood pounding in your temples.

Its the damnedest thing, as I've always been terribly addicted to smokes and coffee..... Usually my first three days, are nearly unbearable.. Although, I am avoiding that lovely scenario right now.. Using the gum and all Good luck :-)

you are right timidi-it takes more than luck,in fact it`s arguably the hardest drug to quit, especially when it`s affordable and readily available. As for seeing your favourite packet at the mart,it is illegal to display or advertise tobacco here. We have just introduced plain packaging so that all you get is a grey pack with a couple of juicy tumours on the front. Guess it is a start but in 20 years or so it will be unbelievable that we could buy a product that was not only highly addictive but arguably fatal?? ps:i`ve been there:gum, patches, inhalers, hypnotism, float tanking, herbal substitutions and my advice to you is to find a desert island with no 7/11 as the basis of addiction is supply. good luck mate.

I'd be happy if I could just cut down to 5-6 a day. I used to smoke 1-2 packs a day. Down to about half a pack over the past couple years. Once I'm less stressed shouldn't be hard to reach my goal. I very much enjoy smoking but I smoke too much and as I age I'm starting to feel the burn. It's also WAY too freaking expensive. Stupid "Sin Taxes". If they cared about actually getting people to quit stop smoking aids would not cost the same or more than the cigarettes themselves. Total scam. Edit: I totally derped that post at first. Fixed. :-/

BTW, my brother went to jail for 30 days. Couldn't smoke. His mind just adapted and he never wanted a cigarette just because he knew he couldn't have one. BTW, (again) I'm trying to work it out with an electronic cig. http://www.modernvapor.com/
