Oh yea. I heard that one yesterday or maybe earlier to day. Very nice as usual.
Hey, I was wondering ... what software do you use to generate the fractal like videos?

Thanks Steve For the Fractal videos I use a piece of software called Chaotica:- https://chaoticafractals.com/ As well as producing fractal images it will also create animated fractal frames. It is surprisingly easy to use. The free version limits the size of images and the number of frames so I ended up paying for the full license. It only created the frames, though, so I then use something called VirtualDub to assemble an AVI file from the stills. VirtualDub is free:- http://www.virtualdub.org/ Once I have the AVI, and some sounds, I bring everything together in Sony Movie Studio. Can't remember how much I paid for Movie Studio but it was under £100. There are free video editors out there, but, after trying a few, I settled on Movie Studio because I liked its options and work flow. cheers andy

Wookiee how did create this audio master piece then ?
Ha! I wasn't expecting a response, but now that you have, Wookiee, let me put together some words to describe my processes here. Might not be till much later today as I have got a few chores to get out of the way first and then it will take me a while to open the project to remind myself of what I did and put that into words. Thanks for listening and for liking and comments over at SC (I have yet to respond to that). cheers andy

Creative Description [Part 1]

Okay... Here goes... I'm hoping pictures are going to help because I am finding it difficult to put into words, not helped by the fact that I created this piece back in March, as the submission deadline for the ambientonline compilation was in May. The following pictures are best viewed by right clicking on the image and selecting "Open image in new tab." This first picture shows the Console View:- As you can see there are five audio tracks and eight busses (including the Master buss). At the start of the piece all audio track faders are set to -inf, as are three of the effects busses. As you will see next, the fader and send levels are automated. This is the Track View and I have expanded the automation lanes enough to, hopefully, see what is going on:- As you can now see, the volume faders are, for the most part, left at -inf and one track is at -inf for the duration of the piece. Each audio track also has a number of send level automation. Here are the Buss Automations:- Again, more fader automation and I also automate a setting within Guitar Rig. The buss fader automations are there to tame levels where I felt they were overpowering the mix. Here is the Absynth Patch page:- Quite a strange patch this, and it is "played" via a rather low C1 note, for the duration of the piece. So a lot of weirdness and some pulsing stuff. Here is the Hive page:- Hive is played with a C3 note for the duration of the piece and provides a distorted bass sound. Here is the Modular V3 page:- This provides the bell like sound. Here is the ARP 2600 V3 page:- The patch used here provides the arpeggiated section and is played with a single C3 note for the duration of the piece. Here is the Twin 2 page:- Twin 2 is played with a C3 note for the duration of the piece and provides another bass drone with a touch of white noise. The delay and reverb effects are not particularly interested. I like large cathedral like spaces and for delay I always use a stereo ping pong effect to impart extra width to the mix. In fact, you will notice that none of the audio tracks or busses are panned at all. All stereo imagery is provided within each synth and/or effect. (I think I have hit the limit of how much blather I can place into a thread, so I am going to have to create a Part 2)

Creative Description [Part 2]

Okay, here is Part 2 Of interest may be Guitar Rig:- And Sandman, which has a lot of internal stuff going on:- I think that is it as far as the pictures are concerned. The creation and experimentation generally proceeds in the order in which I have created the tracks. So I would have started with Absynth, in this case, messed around with some of the stranger patches and routing the audio through the different effects busses. If you look back to the Console image you will see that a lot of the buss sends are Pre Fader and are therefore you will hear the wet sound of the effect with, a lot of the time, none of the dry. I have been playing a lot with this method over the last 18 months or so and I find it a lot of fun. It is, in effect, bringing the VST effects more into the domain of Sound Design. Carrying on, then, I would have placed each of the other VSTi instances, experimenting as I go with various combinations of sends and levels. I also, of course, experiment with the effects settings. Most of the presets I use are tweaked, some heavily, to get the sounds I like. Much time is then spent on tweaking all the automation levels. I will more than likely set all level for the "Pre" sends and then experiment with bringing them in at different times, and that is why you can see peak like automations. I think that is it, for now. Like I said, I did this piece back in March 2017 and I didn't write any notes at the time. So I had to look at the Sonar project to try and remind me of what I did. Can you call this Music? I guess the purist answer to that question is a firm "No." But I am very careful to never refer to any of my pieces as being Music as such. Cheers, and I hope that helps (and thanks to Wookiee for asking andy

Thanks David I think my idea of a "song" would be the same as many here which would be a piece of music with lyrics, preferable "sung" and not spoken. A "SoundScape" can be anything really, made up of sounds, not necessarily musical. cheers, andy
