Actually, the article's title is "Six of the Best Real Instrument Emulations". The critical weasel-word there is "of", implying that these are just six good ones, not necessarily THE best. At least, that's the only way I can imagine them justifying the list they came up with. One of them isn't even an instrument, by my definition. It's a loop library. Another is an emulation of an emulation. None are string libraries (sorry, VSL, you're just a wannabe) or guitars. None of the top-tier virtual instrument brands are even mentioned. The only way this list makes any sense at all is that they meant the title literally, and this is just a random sampling of some good instruments.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

It's also a "Buyers Guide", and, as such, is the "opinion" of the author..

Garritan CFX Concert Grand - reality is do I want a piano taking up that much disk space? The average person in the street couldn't tell the difference between a 100mb piano vs. 100gb piano. Best Flutes Zero G Perpetuo Flutes - I don't get this one. Live phrases means you have to write to accommodate the library. Best Horns NI Session Horns Pro - for the price I could see that. Best Modeled Flutes Samplemodeling The Flutes - why bother with Zero G. BTW this company makes excellent affordable stuff. Could easily replace NI Horns. Best Grand Variety E-Instruments Session Keys Grand - who cares? Takes the fun out of owning many piano libraries. Better magazine for DAW- CM.

Still, 250's rather high for some flutes. Time to dust off my ol' Yamaha and just play.

Y'know, everything about that article bugs me. Even the new trend of not having an index or summary and having the whole article be click-bait. Plus, like Bitflipper said, TWO flute examples? And no guitars? No Bass, or Hammond or like ANY other instruments? Plus, after each item there's no "runner ups" which is a sign of some non-existent research.
