Since it's good for 3 months, I'm thinking I'll at least wait until Komplete 8 is announced so I don't buy something I might get with a future upgrade down the road.

I had a $30 voucher I tried to use on crossgrading to Kontakt4, but (of course) you can't use them on any specials they have. I read somewhere that NI has a big backorder on Kontakt4, but I'll still get that before the end of June. I'm also not sure what I should get....I only have Komplete 7 Elements, Battery3, and Prism.

you might find the coupon is specifically only for kore sound packs perhaps.. check the small print
but the problem with that is.. you buy one only to find they have included it in the new Komplete!!
I've been stitched up like that already.. they neglected to put a thing on the website pic "B4 upgrade" thing saying "included in K8" when it was initially posted, only later did that appear.. then told me to sell it on.. lousy customer service and deceptive advertising... I'm sure I'm not the only one that they stung with that one.

I have Pre-Bass and Jay-Bass. Pre bass gets the most use but it will depend on the type of music. As a broad generalisation Pre-bass is more of a rock sound, Jay Bass, is more Soul and Jazz It has slap articulations, pre bass does not. Both are very versatile.

Is it fairly easy to use (in getting it to sound realistic ) as I'm not a keyboardist by a long shot?
Raesonable easy to use at a basic level and quite complex if you want to take advantage of all the features. If you are not a keyboardist you will find yourself doing a bit of editing in Piano roll to perfect the legato notes for hammer ons etc. Its worth having a sustain pedel on your keyboard to trigger the slides. This is one of my favourite features. It can be tricky judging how hard to hit the keys to make sure notes fall on the right side of the velocity switches for harmonic/mute/sustain, but a bit of practice helps, I always end up with some with notes I have to tweak the veloicy in PRV. However I think the results are worth it. There are a vast array of key switches that add more control when you are ready to take it to the next level.

Thanks so much for the details....it helped a lot in taking the final plunge. Just ordered the J-Bass with the full version of Kontakt (been waiting for awhile to get in on a crossgrade deal and got both for under $200). I do have a sustain pedal and will start using it.
