39.99 is too expensive for having to put up with "Custom Shop." I might go $99 for 4 the freestanding 64bit .dlls but "Custom Shop" is a turn off for me. IK acts like they are doing us a favor by inviting us to pick at the bones of all the sloppy second VSTs while it counts the billions rolling in over at the apps store. I wonder if anyone that works at IK has noticed that some customers are annoyed? best regards, mike

? Why? If you don't like the custom shop you don't have to use it. There are far more people that seem to like it than not. We have grown and downloads have been downloading far faster since its launch. FAR more than before and for us thats a good thing to go back to our studio roots and not just live on iOS. (which is tempting at times)

I thought that in order to get updates you had to use the custom shop now? Not that, IMO, that is any worse than using NI's Service Center. I just want to clarify.

Though with NI's service center, you only download the updated component/plug-in. The Custom Shop needs to be re-downloaded as a whole every time there is an update you want to install. But as for authorization themselves, admittedly, it's given me no trouble - something I can't say about the old IK Authorization Manager which I intensely dislike (worst than NI's Service Center, imho).

You guys still haven't helped get the other channels on the midi working on this thing for me! Maybe I will get that call the day after I die ... how fitting ... but your business will hurt a lot more before that! Talk is cheap!

I love my CSR and use them on just about every project. They are my go-to verbs. Well worth the $40 IMO. Custom Shop.... It doesn't bother me. It's not like it interferes with my PC and it's stability or anything. It just sits there quietly doing nothing unless I ask it to. It doesn't run in the background or fire up at start up like Adobe crap does. It's basically like an app you would have on a smart phone. No one really cares if I like it or not. If they want an IK product that's the way you get it. Waves and NI have similar things. I even have an iLok and that doesn't bother me at all either. I never even know it's there anymore. Just my useless 2¢ worth. Mike

One good point is setting up a new DAW, one download and one click and all the latest versions of a lot of VSTs and add-ons are installed. I can see however that if you have just one or two products it seems overkill. I could do without the Custom Shop business model because its very cleaver at encouraging those impulsive purchase. But at least T-Racks, CSR and Amplitube are quality products even if lack of Sampletank updates have become a standing joke.

I paid for the $99 version of the 32bit CSRs a few years ago. The only one I use is the "plate". I just bought the $50 Valhalla Room which is free standing and you just plop it anywhere you want. I just bought the $449 Exponential Audio Phoenix Reverb and R2 because they sound better than anything I ever heard. They sound so good it was worth putting up with iLok. I'd like to pay for the 64bit CSR .dlls IK says they'll give them to me for free if I just install the Custom Shop. I spent $500 on reverbs just this month and IK didn't earn a penny of it. I'm voting with my pennies. Maybe IK will come up with a special price for folks that don't want to install Custom Shop? best regards, mike

I even paid me some of that Italian VAT @ IK Obi - I realise the CSR I just bought is very good value at the special offer price, but it seems a bit mean to me not to allow us to use our Jam Points towards the cost of purchase. Is this the case for all offers?

IMO the iLok is just as bad as the Custom Shop since it's tied to a proprietary procedure in order to run the software version you want to run.

The difference is simple. The one I am using with the iLok for is worth the trouble to me. The other one is something I paid $99 for and only used a little bit because it never sounded better than ok. I'd like to install my CSR license on my new DAW for the convenience of opening old projects... but only if it's convenient. I'm bemused by the idea that a company would rather devalue their product with sale pricing, to meet a perceived balance of supply/demand, than figure out how to provide a value worth paying for full price for. best regards, mike edit spelling
