Many excelent folks but I was actually a litte surprised to see the ranking. And very surprised about the number one! But pretty cool if you're interested;)

    Geddy who?

Wow, I hardly know most of those guys who didn't make the top 20... And even then - last time I heard about bass players, Billy Sheehan was telling some reporter that Steve Harris had a great left hand.

The guys from The Cure and Duran Duran in the top 20, really? 2 bands I love, especially The Cure but... Really???

I say the voting was rigged.

    Hi,

You can always tell the amount/ability to judge a good player when the majority of them are from the top ten class of music fame/sales, and so few of them are actual bass players.

Missing in here and not represented, would be the likes of Eberhard Weber, David Darling, Charlie Haden, Mike Howlett, Dave Pegg (Fairport Convention) ... and so many others in Spain, Italy, Germany and France, alone ... that would put the rock'n'rollers to shame!

Oh well ... as usual, the most talented and knowledgable players remain hidden! But Gene Simmons as a good bass player before Bapu ... right!!!!! You got to be joking!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

My favorite made #17 (Tony Levin) and, evidentally, they didn't go out of their comfort zones too far or they would have included Art Davis.

There's some good 'uns on that list for sure.

But a few missing, and a few who possibly don't deserve to be there on actual talent/ability as bassists.

    Yikes!

They are the ones with vans and a PA. All others (sans PA and a van) are NOT bazz plyers.

    Oh yeah, and rehearsal space.

BTW, "player" is an obtuse term when it comes to bass.

Good to see Squarepusher aka Tom Jenkinson on there. I'd always liked hearing the odd drum and bass track of his, some of his stuff is quite insane, but I didn't know he was such a good bass player until recently when I happened across some of his solo bass stuff on Spotify.

Been listening to him for quite a while. My son turned me on to him in like 2000 or so. Bat Shlitz Insane barely touches on what he does.

Well that there is about the stupidest list I've seen in a month a Sundays.  Lee Sklar and Carole Kaye in the 40s?????  No mention of Edgar Myer??? (or any of the umpteen other Nashville bassists who could play rings around 80 percent of the "list makers").  So many were left out and so many piddle asses were included.  There is a distinct difference between being famous and being a virtuoso.  Pffffffffffft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree. Lee Sklar and Carole Kaye defined the sound of bass guitar in modern music. Also, Paul Jones.

I would put Jaco at the top and although Stanley Clark had some interesting and ground breaking albums, he should be below Jacko, Paul, Lee and Carol in terms of contributions to modern music. Victor Wooton should also be in the top 5.

Lee Sklar below Kiss? Vince Gill's bass player not even on the list? That rating was done by an amatuer.

    Gear: A bunch of stuff.

    This just in:

Researchers are beginning to suspect that conducting polls at an 8 year old's slumber party may not produce results mirroring the views of the general populace.  In addition, it appears that Researchers and Investigative Journalists are like totally creepy.
