64 bit Rewire question
Hi guys,
Quick Rewire question I have for you guys. I have been trying to use Rewire in Sonar 7.0.2 running in 64bit Windows Vista Ultimate. When I try to connect a Rewire input/output, the Rewire option is grey'ed out. In my prior 32bit installation of Sonar 7.0.2 on Windows XP, SP 3 I was having no problems using Rewire.
Does any one happen to know if it is possible to use rewire in 64bit Windows? Is this an issue with Sonar or Windows?
Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Very Basic System specs:
Intel Quad core 2.66ghz processor
4 gigs of DDR2 800mhz RAM
Can provide complete system specs upon request but I don't get the impression that this is a Hardware issue. Other then Rewire everything works fine.

Specifically MaxMSP 4 or MaxMSP 5. I also have a copy of Ableton live which I am unable to rewire.

I am pretty sure I have read that rewire is not supported in 64-bit versions of SONAR. I can't find the reference to it but I am almost certain I have read this on a few occasions before.

That doesn't add 64 bit compatibility to ReWire; ReWire's 32 bit only. What that does is install ReWire according to Vista rules for people who use Reason 3.0.4.
If you want to use ReWire, you have to use the 32 bit version of Sonar.

If you want to use ReWire, you have to use the 32 bit version of Sonar. That's what I thought. I didn't see anything on their web site that said it is now ok with 64-bit apps. Thank-ew.

Without doubt rewire is a Propellerhead idea that will NOT work in 64 bit o/s.
I am waiting for 2 things to happen before I upgrade my system.
One is usb3 and the other is rewire in 64 bit mode.
The techs at Propellerhead are aware and have not set a date publicly about
when it may be resolved.

There have been several threads on this, and responses from Cakewalk. ReWire in 64 bit will not happen without Propellerheads doing it. It's their code and as such until they decide to upgrade, it aint gonna happen anytime soon, which stinks. I have Reason, but I'm also 64 bit on Win 7 and fine myself using it less and less because of lack of 64 bit ReWire suppport.

I don't know why Propellerhead hasn't updated Rewire to 64-bit...I'm no computer programmer so I don't know how difficult it would be but they've known for awhile that 64-bit was coming...

Yah I got suckered. Bought reason 5 and sonar X1 now gotta wait for rewire support. I won't hold my breath though. Now that propellerheads released record I think that dream is over. It may be time to dump reason? Well there are hundreds more software programs to experiment with while reason collects dust. I guess PH will not be getting anymore of my money.

you can always run sonar X1 in 32bit mode instead of 64 and that will allow rewire to work for reason.

This question has been asked over on the Propheads forum many times over and the same answer always comes back from Propellerheads programmers/corporate: "we are not going to update Rewire to 64 bit because we see no reason to do so." Unfortunately a chunk of the user base over there sees no reason either for 64 bit Rewire so until that changes we'll not see any movement on Propellerheads's part. Either that or computer os's drop 32 bit operation.

The thing to remember is it's not just Reason that uses the Rewire protocol - there's a whole bunch of other programs out there that do use it and those programs are moving to 64 bit. I guess the Propheads can't wrap their heads around that, so it's not just their program that is involved (Reason) but others as well.
