+1 on the practical application getting lost. People get consumed at times with technical, but not have a real-world application to it (or understand its limitations).
I habitually challenge tolerances, since every engineering student is taught +/- error, yet never carries these through calculations. Give them a higher degree, or throw a computer in front of them, and they completely forget "stack tolerances" or how significant digits carry through calculations. When pressed for decisioning, I will often prompt for "3 significant digits, and order of magnitude." This certainly does not correlate to a DAW much beyond general concept, but people will fall prey to minutiae at the expense of the big picture quite readily.
The simple fact that ears (both on the production side as well as consumer side) are in the system, throws a lot of "high precision calculation" out the window.
