64bit or 32bit?

i have a question, i had to reinstall X2 because when i was trying to get digital sound factory to work in dim pro i actually lost dim pro. anyway, when i was doing this i saw that i can install X2 in 32 or 64 bit. what are the benefits if any by using 64? what i mean is should the soft synths be in one or the other or both?

64bit SONAR will see all of the RAM installed in your PC. The 32bit version sees less than half of it. The 64bit versions of the soft synths will not run in the 32bit version of SONAR. If you need both versions of SONAR and want the synths to run in both versions, you will need to install both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the synths.

Don't know about advantages but the last Sonar x32 bit I used was V7 and that was only for a short while before going x64 with it.

I invested in Jbridge for the odd x32 bit VSTs I sill use and haven't looked back since.

    x64 all the way........

jBridge is also handy for allowing 32-bit programs to access 64-bit plug-ins. For example, it will allow Notion 3 (currently 32-bit only) running in Win 64 to use 64-bit sample plug-ins so they can load a ton more samples... provided you have the RAM of course.

I run 32 bit XP pro but.... I would suggest going 64 bit and update all the VST's to 64 bit versions.

One day I will update to 64 bit... but it will probably be 128 bit by then.

To give you an idea of memory limits, 32 bit max for the OS is 4 GB, and for Windows 7 64-bit the memory limit is 192 GB.

Each 64-bit application gets a much larger address space within which to work, so memory-related issues just go away.

I have 32 GB of memory in my desktop and it is just not ever a concern.

I hung with 32 bit for a long time until recently. After switching I noticed the performance of X1 at the time being more responsive and evenly spread across the cores. I miss using some of the standard fx I used on buses, but I found suitable replacements. I highly recommend 64 bit.

You can install both x32 and x64 on the same computer - a lot of folks do that.  They play nicely together, and you retain the ability to use the 32-bit effects in the x43 installed X2.

Yes definitely go for 64 bit for all the mentioned benefits but be prepared IMO to go 64bit for all your plug ins. I had troubles with some of the usual suspects as they were 32bit and things did not play real nice all the time. Avoid the pain I say...

    Cheers.
