76 Style Compressor

I know there are a lot of folks who feel that this forum should not be used to discuss 3d party software.

However with the new "pro channel" introducing the 76 comp to us...and the release of IK multimedia's black 76.
There are a lot of us want to compare and such but mostly create a great recording.

And to that end I discovered a great compressor and half the price of IK's model....and it is awesome!!

it is made by "Stillwell Audio" ...The Rocket.... they offer a free unlimited trial version.....I have not tried their other plugins.

http://www.stillwellaudio.com/?page_id=68

I had to have it...easy to use and abuse.....The Rocket Rocks!!

Of course! I have used it a lot (Boost11)
this is a different animal....the Boost11 is more of a limiter/comp  and does not have the fast attack and release controls which are needed for the types of compressor I am comparing to...try their trial...and compare yourself on Drums for example.
Plus it is loaded with presets and ..side-chain capable and also parallel compression. Try it.
I am not knocking Boost11 ...this is a different style of processor.

Isn't the 1176 described as a FET limiter?

Well as far as conventional thinking goes any compressor set to a ratio 0f 10:1 or more is basically functioning as a limiter.
The 1176 as is the "76" in the Pro Channel..indeed does havr the 4,8,12 and 20:1 as well as the infamous "All" in button.
The cool thing about the "Rocket" is its' lightning fast attack
....anyway I am by no means the person to get too "techy" about the details.

Other than I know when I want a compressor to grab fast and hard and it works!

Compare it to the Pro Channel "76" as it and the rocket are modeled after the "1176".
Use the same settings and listen ...A/B and listen..."hear" what you think the differences and or similarities are sonically.
And also the ease of use. (one complaint about the Pro Channel is that the interface is so small)
The Rocket demo has no limits ..so it costs nothing but your time and ears.
    Have fun,

How does a demo have no limits. Isn't that just a free plugin?

    jonny3d,
Mike might just be having a bit of fun with you. There is already a thread discussing the ProChannel vs. Native Instruments 1176 emulation. Really the thing to do is use your ears and make it sound as good as you can using the tools at your disposal. The Stillwell comp is a good value, but when something is free, what is it worth? I'm not disparaging free VSTs, but I'm not going to give up my UAD-2 and the superb 1176 (and 1176 SE) emulation they have developed either.

I am hopeful that some people will read your thread and take the time to learn how to use the tools in Sonar first. If those aren't up to the task of making the music sound professional (or good to the ear at least), then it is time to explore other options.

    Keep making music,

I think you are referring to NI's version, not IK's. (IK's is Black.)

This is how demo has no limit.. I actually picked up all their plugs today digging them so far really like the bombardier and the spectrum analyzer.  Rocket is pretty cool to.

What's the difference between the demo and licensed versions by scott » Tue Oct 02, 2007 4:03 pm
    1) Eliminates the 10-second nag screen and replaces it with a short thank you message displaying the registered name. 2) A better nights' sleep, knowing you've done the right thing. That's it. There is NO difference in audio processing or performance...the demo version is the same quality as the licensed version. We leave it up to you to purchase a license or remove the software after the evaluation period is over. Enjoy! Scott

    Thank for the words ........jungfriend

the Sonar Pro Channel "76", IK "Black face 76",  the NI "VC 76" and the Stillwell "Rocket" are all emulating the same thing the famous 1176.

I am only offering it as an option to check out.

It is $49.95..and as I understand the trial has no limitations (it may time out?? I don't know?)

But instead of arm-wrestling what is worth or what it is....check it out and let your ears figure it out....

I am hooked on it .....and I sleep good at night! lol!

Thanks skyodelic for the clarification...I am glad you like them ..I am going to check out their other plugins as well!

Stillwell Audios other compressor Bombardier was evaluated as a very good and versatile plugin in Computer Music magazine last year. I just noticed that article a while ago and haven't tested yet (the demo was on the cover DVD). They wrote it's exceptional value for the money etc.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
