When I was in High School, there were a ton of sex-ploitation movies - kind of hard R - that showed at Drive Ins. Women in Cages. Women in Prison. Women at Hot Dog Carts... Plus there was one that showed psychedelic stuff a lot. Candy. Zachariah. Fritz the Cat. The Trip. Clockwork Orange.

Jbow- we only made it to Moultrie on the holidays to see family there. But we had the Slappy drive- in in Albany. I remember the same kinds of movies Space Cowboy.... "Vampire Hookers" comes to mind immediately. Bapu must have been only about 55 or 60 then.

Not romantic, but I clearly remember when the one opened in my town when I was around 15. It had large I-Beams at angles to support the screen. On opening night it was very crowded, and at intermission one of the local derelicts decided it would be really cool to shimmy up one of the I-Beams. Probably a good 30 or 40 feet up in the air. I'll never forget it. People started noticing him when he got up near the screen, and they were hollering and honking horns and flashing headlights. He turned to wave and that's when he lost his grip and fell to the ground. The sound of the crowd when he was falling was a collective gasp followed by the sound of a "thump". Pretty sure his drunkeness whas the only thing that saved him from permenant injury. Randy

I can remember my parents buying a mosquito coil so that we weren't eaten alive since we had to have a window partially down so that speaker thing could be in the car with us. The first drive in movie I recall going to see was "This Island Earth" with my parents in the back of a late 50s Chevy. I remember wearing my PJs to the movie (must have been 5 or so, which means This Island Earth had been out for six years, which makes me wonder why it was at a drive in in 1961). I remember the Interociter and Exeter and the scene where the single engine plane is rayed up by the space ship. Somewhere in the early 80s, while there were still a few drive ins left in Texas, they changed to FM reception for the audio.

I remember being about 5 or 6 at the drive in. My parents would set lawn chairs out by the front fenders of the car for us younguns to sit in during the movie. One night a drunk in a car pulled up way too close to the speaker pole and my dad told him to move. The guy got pissed and backed up and steered into my lawn chair and crushed the arm rest in his wheel well. I just happened to move my hand before he hit, otherwise I may never have played guitar. It would have crushed my left hand.

No drive-in theaters in Finland. In the summer it's too light and in the winter you should have the engine running all through the movie to keep the wind screen clear and hypothermia outside. So ... not a product for northern markets.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

First drive-in movie I remember seeing was The Great Escape, Tampa, Florida, about 1964. I fell asleep before it was over (parents thought ahead and made me and Mike wear our PJs). It was many years before I finally saw how it turned out. In high school, it was a regular event, especially on carload night. And a guy I knew worked the gate at the Fox drive-in on Bragg Blvd. We'd buy tickets to the regular movie (the one facing Bragg) and he's let us into the other drive-in, the one with the, um, "movies for young male adult GIs". That screen was facing toward the woods so no young impressionable folks would see what adults do.

You said "memorable" and you also added "romantic," but I don't see "embarassing" anywhere nor do I see the word "Security" after "encounters..." Never mind.
