would that much memory be available for use? F@KKER
Someone said: I've had more time to play with this, and am withdrawing the bug remarks. This appears to work as designed and is actually a pretty cool feature.

Yes if you are using 64 bit operating system. I have just installed XP64 and the ram will arrive soon. Will let you know the results.

dont forget the /PAE switch at the end of your boot.ini file =) this way all ram will be accessed.

Cannot find boot.ini on my system. Initially I had XP32 installed with 4x1GB ram but system only recognised under 3GB. I installed XP64 but it still sees under 3GB. I want to make sure that it sees the 4GB in full before I install the 4x2GB ram which I have just received. I would be most gratefull if you can advise on this issue.

Check out this link from Microsoft. It'll explain alot about memory addressing and some of the switches like /3gb and /PAE. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx To edit your boot.ini, right click on my computer > properties > advanced > start up and recovery settings > click edit, under system startup. i think for 64bit systems, the /PAE switch might be the best option, im not sure though.

Thanks for the reply. You are right, /PAE switch is used in 32bit systems to extend memmort addressing capabilities. I am still looking for info on how to get XP64 to recognise ram over 3GB

In bios, do you have memory remap On or Off? On my P5B Deluxe, it had to be On to see all the memory. There were some strange side effects to that, however, on the Windows 32 partition. I'll have to repro it to let you know, since I don't remember off-hand. - zevo

I am still looking for info on how to get XP64 to recognise ram over 3GB I've just put XP64 back on my system and I have 4 GB installed and Windows is reporting 3.93. This was a prebuilt DAW recovery disk that I setup from so I don't know if they did anything to make it see more than 3 GB or not. I'll check though.

I have now installed the 4x2GB modules (Kingston KHX6400D2/2G 800MHz). The Bios reports 7.104Gb and windows reports 6.93GB. Is this normal? And what is happening to the remaining 1GB?

I have now found where you can enable memory remap in the Bios. It is found under Chipset configuration. It was set to disable. Now the Bios reports 8.192GB and Windows 8:00GB. Thank you for your help. Is there any adverse effect in doing so? Also what other Bios fine tuning you advise? I forced Bios to clock ram at 800MHz. This should be OK since the Ram modules are CL5 and the chipset will coup with it.
