8 reasons why you should read this thread

I can not stand this!   Do you have a LinkedIn Account?   Have you seen the plethora of headlines like this?  "4 reasons you fail, 8 reasons you win, 10 products you need, 7 ways to think better."

Wow... I can't even ignore these things..  Ever time I see em, I just have to click!

Grr!

I am considering cancellation of my LinkedIn...

too many lasers...

I have an account, but I haven't logged-in in years.  I'm not even sure I finished signing up when I started to hear about security problems, so I never really got into it.  I should probably cancel, but I haven't bothered to do it yet.

I get those articles, too.  I used to read them, but I mostly delete them unless it's something I'm interested in.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

I cancelled mine last year. FB is enough for me. I have a Twitter but I have nothing to write... and I really don't care where people are or what they ate.

I sometimes go more than a week without checking my email.

I hate LinkedIn. They are the most annoying, spammy website. I have an account but I don't use it because, well, who does? But that didn't stop them from sending me like 10 emails a day telling me that such-and-such "wants to connect with me." But those people weren't sending me an invite at all, they were sent automatically from LinkedIn. You have no way of knowing whether someone actually wants to connect with you or whether it's just LinkedIn spam. So I went into my preferences and disabled emails completely. Now they leave me alone.

This is the only 'community' I go to on the 'net. Cannot get up any enthusiasm to do FB, Twitter or any of the others. Tried MySpace for a while but they wrecked it about 18 months ago and I haven't been back since.

    Hi,

Even worse ... gettin emails constantly saying that someone has added me as a friend ... like that person would never call me, or let me know!

Sure ... open up your connection to more spam and crap! If that is what you want!

I have not "indulged" in any of these since the days when Yahoo groups first started ... that is over 12 years ago almost, when they "took over" for the newsgroups, more or less. The newsgroups became spam central and viagra central and then the Yahoo groups implemented the reverse dns check on all IP's and voila ... 75% of all the messages in their group got trashed and everyone got upset because half their friends could not get emails!

All in all, be it Facebook, Linkthis or that or whatever, they are all a serious security hazard to the inside of your computer since it has to display its IP address to be able to be used. and your network is not strong enough (in most cases) to know how to hide this information, but if you do, even Linkthin will not allow you to participate!

You really think these people are stupid? ... they need the "hit" to get money for their advertising, and if they can not connect and the address is spoofed, they can not count another "hit".

Biggest recommendation? ... you don't need these.

When, and IF, one of these days, Microsoft, Sun and Apple stop fighting IPv6, and then we all get one and it stays and gets verified, you can then control your security a lot better by allowing someone or not ... and you can make a determination ... as to its spoofing ability ... it will be way harder to spoof with IPv6, since the routing is not allowed to be hidden to routers in that concept ... which is the reason why these big companies don't want it ... what they do underneath that you don't know about ... is the most insidious and invasive thing ever ... but they are "good", not "bad" ... therefore they can do it ... and the others can't! ... even if the sale of Viagra might be honest and a valid business! Now wouldn't that be a kick!
