8.5 owner/new PC/total frustration

i just got a new i5 750 PC (thanks Jim Roseberry!) and i'm going to have to start from scratch here...i know i have the original S8 disc and i think i wrote the serial number in the manual (of course i can't find them atm), but i don't recall what Cake's policy is for installing on a new (second) PC...obviously i registered the program, but am i going to have to make a call Monday morn to Cake or will i be able to fire up the program with just the serial number (provided i can find it)?

thanks...

All you need is your S/N and you can get that if you log into the estore that is in this same web site.

You can install it on every new pc you buy, just as long as you only have it on 2 pc's at a time and you cannot use both at the same time

    8.5 is a piad update
You need to install 8.3, not 8.5

We covered that about a week ago and there is no limit stated to the number of PCs that you install it on only that it only be used on one at a time. A literal reading of the check boxes in the install would be that you can only install and use on one computer though. In the end I don't think Cake will complain as long as the original purchaser is the only one using the software.

8.3 is just an update. You have to have 8 installed (and I suspect 8.1 and 8.2) to install it.

    Hi Ross,

As has been mentioned, you'll need the Sonar 8 install DVD.
Install v8 from that (using your install SN)
Then, unlock Sonar with the unlock code Cakewalk issued when you registered.
Finally, install the update patches to get to Sonar 8.31

IMO, The upgrade to 8.5 (currently at v8.53) is worth the cost.
    • You get BitBridge2 (resolves a lot of issues with 32Bit plugins that had problems being "Bridged" with BitBridge1)
    • The audio engine in 8.5 was tweaked... and is a significant improvement when working at ultra low latency settings.

Nope, 8.3.1 will update any of the previous versions of 8 to 8.3.1.

    Hey Jim...

I already own 8.5.3, I was hoping I could get away with not installing from the original S8 disc, but i found it so point's moot. Got the old Emu 1820 interface and drivers installed, seem to work fine. Going to have to read up on bit bridge, I think I'll have time to install the rest of my VSTs and such tomorrow.

thanks for everyone's help, and go buy a PC from Mr. Roseberry!

Well, I managed to get to version 8.3.1.372, but I am unable to install any further version...

It looks like the next available version I can get access to is 8.5.2, and then I would be able to install 8.5.3 (from what it says on the update page), but I'm not allowed to...

again: I've paid for 8.5, It has my registration/SN visiable in "My Account"...

this is getting frustrating, and seems there are way too many hoops to have to jump through to get access to something I own...

EDIT: i missed an old email with the link to 8.5, now downloading...HOWEVER there has to be an easier way, i've already spent hours and i still have to install 3 more version...

8.5 is a paid update. Did you pay for it and your not able to download it?

    read the thread title...

i found the email with the 8.5 d/l info (here's to never deleting emails!) so it looks like i'm on the right path...but 5 seperate installs and hours of time leads me to believe there just has to be an easier way...

i only added the "frustrated" part to the thread title, i also mentioned it in my reply to Jim Roseberry, and again in the next post (which i did edit, but added "EDIT: " to the edited section)...so that's three times i mentioned i own/paid for/etc 8.5...

perhaps i could have simply d/l'ed version 8.5, but the point is now moot, them's the breaks...

    i thought he did!

I'm sure he does, and he did a great job on my PC and is very helpfull, responds to emails quickly, and actually answers the phone! I would not hesitate to rec him or use his services again...

But I already owned Sonar Producer 8.5 and had an Emu 1820 interface. My previous PC died (an older P4/XP machine), so I wanted a current level CPU so I could use Sonar to it's full potential.

My confusion/frustration came from not knowing exactly how to get 8.5.3 on to the new PC. Turns out I should have skipped installing from the disc, just should have d/l'd 8.5 and registered it on the new PC and then the updates. A call to tech support would have saved me a lot of time, live and learn...
