8.5 x32 and X1 x64 with respective plugins in W7 x64
I shall soon be setting up a new W7 64-bit PC. I will be migrating from my old XP 32-bit machine. I wish to install 8.5 32 bit on the new PC, and X2 64-bit. To that end, I have some questions: 1) Can 8.5 32-bit and X1 64-bit reside in the same Wy 64-bit environment? 2) How do I install plugins (e.g. Dim Pro and Rapture) as 32-bit plugins for use by 8.5, and as 64-bit plugins for use by X1? Separate VST directories for 32- and 64-bit plugins? 3) How can 8.5 and X1 access the correct image of the plugin? thanks Keith

How did you get X2 I'm jealous. 1) Can 8.5 32-bit and X1 64-bit reside in the same Wy 64-bit environment? yes 2) How do I install plugins (e.g. Dim Pro and Rapture) as 32-bit plugins for use by 8.5, and as 64-bit plugins for use by X1? Separate VST directories for 32- and 64-bit plugins? Use seperate directories for 32 and 64 bit plugs. 3) How can 8.5 and X1 access the correct image of the plugin? Point the program to the right folders in preferences-vst settings

I would set up my folders as so now that i think about it 32 bit plugs that you also have 64 bit versions of- pointed to 8.5 32 bit 64 bit plugs - pointed to x1 64 bit 32 bit plugs that you don't have 64 bit versions of - pointed to x1 and 8.5 This should eliminate both the 32 and 64 bit versions of plugs showing up in x1. I set this up wrong at first and could never tell if I was loading the 32 bit or 64 bit plug ins.

sykodelic: Thanks for the reply. Does X1 have separate folder entries for 64-bit VST's and 323-bit VST's? In other words, can I set up X1 to automatically access the folder for 64-bit plugins, and also access the folder for 32-bit plugins (presumably shared with 8.5) when I use a 332-bit plugin? thanks again

32 bit plug-ins go in "Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" 64 bit plug-ins go in "Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" Sonar will install both properly for you. Some 3rd Party plugs will try to put themselves some where else. Just pay attention and change the path or add that path (the one the errant installer used) in "Plugin Manager" in the appropriate version of Sonar. "Plugin Manager" is where you set the scan paths and tell Sonar to ignore duplicate (32 and 64 bit) Vst's. HTH

Man, Working in 8.5 and X1 scrambles the eggs just a bit. As sykodelic said in X1 Preferences>VST Settings is where the Vst scan paths are set. then Utilities>Cakewalk Plug-in Manager for the Exclude Plug-in In 8.5.3 Options>Global>VST Plug-ins for paths then Tools>Cakewalk Plug-in Manager for the exclude. For some reason I thought the paths were in Manager as well...

I've been doing some more thinking. I wanted to install 8.5 32-bit on the new PC, because it is what I have been using all along, and it would be there in case I had problems with X1 (e.g. could not open old project in X1). However, is there any reason why I should not install 8.5 as a 64-bit application instead? If I have the DVD's for 8.0 and the download for 8.5, do I have everything I need for a 64-bit installation? thanks again Keith
