8.5->PT8->X1?
Hi guys, I am new to this forum and I am a little curious about Sonar X1. I used to use Sonar 8.5 before switching to Pro Tools 8 last year. My question is, how does X1 stack up against 8.5 and Pro tools? How does it compare in regard to CPU usage? Thanks in advance, Nick

All three programs have the ability to run massive projects. How do they all stack up? I deem them all quite stackable.

Hi Nick, If you have a big Pro Tools HD desk you wouldn't be asking. If you don't- go with Sonar.

X1 is based on the same engine as 8.5 so it should run pretty much the same as 8.5 did for you. I have an i7 920 with 12 gigs ram running Win7 64bit as well as X1 64bit and I record at 24/96 and even on big projects my cpu is only at about 45%. It runs fantastic as far as I'm concerned. Never used Pro Tools, but I like X1 alot better than 8.5

I've never used pro tools because it was coded by demons and it interferes with that guy's magic jack from the other thread. Honestly though, I've not used PT. If anything, I'd ask you (Nick) how 8.5 compares to PT because you have used both. Please have your power point ready to present ASAP! Thanks, -D

protools 8 is the worst of those three BY FAR.. use sonar or switch to PT9. only 0T9 is on equal footing with sonar. ive used the, all- i do know all this from persoanl experiemce. P58 doesnt even have delay compensation

BlixYZ protools 8 is the worst of those three BY FAR.. use sonar or switch to PT9. only 0T9 is on equal footing with sonar. Yes perhaps same footprint.. haven't even bother to checked any footprint? By the way, with this massive CPU power we have today who cares about any foot print? One thing is clear though...you can't even dream doing all the things you can do with SONAR X1 x64bit version VS any Pro Tools... Pro Tools is still 32bit with it limit of 2GB of RAM usage. I eat 2GB RAM to breakfast and haven't even start working yet... If you working as a professional producer and mixer engineer you need x64bit to make your productions period. 2GB limit is no option anymore. To take it even furher try to score to TV or film with virtual instruments are a impossible task working in 32bit mode. So Pro Tools LE or HD is not an option that's why so many have already dropped and crossgrade to other DAW platforms that do support x64 instead, example SONAR X1, Logic, Cubase 6, Nuendo 5... Just a friendly input form the reality.. Best Regards Freddie

Ok it's settled. PT sucks. Nick, if you want to suck, get pt9. I can only speculate that you might already suck from the inferences in you post. If you don't suck, my apologies and I suck. But I don't use PT, so I don't suck for that. Ok, admin, lock the thread, that's all we need to know about this. Anything further requires this thread to move to the ever growing 'worthless questions you can google' area. Thank you, HAPPY EASTER! -D

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm going to bite the bullet and get X1. The GUI looks pretty darn sweet, however it seems like big jump from Sonar 8.5, but hey - I love learning new stuff. I'm getting tired of all the B.S. that comes with Pro tools. Don't get me wrong, I do like pro tools - when it is working... I just don't remember having as much down time with Sonar. Again, thanks for helping out. Nick
