You'd think in the economy they'd be jumping at doing it for $75 a square.

I havent seen the adjusters estimate yet but Im figuring; Complete tear off, 2 rows of Ice Protection all the way around, $100 per sq shingles, $100 per sq labor, adding correcting venting, replacing all the facia and gutters on a 32'x66' w/ one hip roof (7/12 slope). Sounds reasonable compaired to me doing it and that is with 3 seperate bids on it already. Hoping they make it happen for about $6k.

I'm thinking that mine was about $8k. between the roofing company "discounts" which paid the equivalent of my deductible (but heavens no, not them paying the deductible directly! that would be against the insurance laws or something...) and I "upgraded" my roof to a Class 3 or whatever it was - 30 year roof. anyway - I ended up paying about $1k of it (maybe a little more), IIRC because of the upgrade, but I'll have recoup'd that within 4 years I think with insurance discounts.

Disclosure: the quote I mentioned was for the less expensive shingles ($60 at cost per square) ... a buddy of mine does this sort of work and was quoting it for me.....We were up there replacing a few shingle which had blown off in the recent high winds, and noting the condition and age of the shingles, I asked about replacing the shingles with new. They are at least 20 years old, perhaps older. It is a project for later this year or early next year..... house and detached garage. I suspect if I got bids from other companies it would be about 2x as high.... BTW: Yeah.... much better to let a pro do this, and do it right the first time. Not a job I want to try to do myself to save money....
