A Different Check Mix In Mono Question.

Here's a dumb question. How does one check the mix in mono? On each individual track I have the interleave set to mono because they're recorded in mono. Then I have all my buses set to stereo. Do I set them all to mono or just the master. Or am I not getting this at all?

Just the master if your checking out a stereo mix. You can check the busses individually if you need to track down a specific stem that is causing a problem but what ever instrument is dissappearing when summed to mono would probably be pretty evident.

Edit : If you do notice a problem...mute the effects to see if your have a chorus delay or verb making things out of phase.

Changing the master bus from stereo to mono may also change how the plugins process the audio since they also change from stereo to mono. It will probably force you to lower the volume fader by 3 dB to account for the level increase so you can judge everything at the same volume level.

The best thing I've found so far is the free SXmono plugin from TBT: http://www.tinbrooketales.com/archive/oldtbtvstplugins.htm
(Some of the other free TBT plugins are useful as well...)

Download SXmono.zip, open it, and throw the plugin into your VST path. Put the plugin at the end of your master bus FX bin, open it, and hit the button. Instant mono results without altering the project and no volume change to account for.

You can use me as your eSoundz referral (altima_boy_2001).

Cool. Thanks a lot guys. That's how I thought it would be done but sometimes with recording and mixing there's more to it then just the simple answer. I figured I'd check.
