A Little Midi Help

Okay here's the deal.  I have an older Akai harmonizer.  I want to be able to control the harmonies from my APro-500. The Akai is set on omni.  I'm trying to hook up the harmonizer between the Apro and my Focusrite usb 6. Do I midi in from the controller or the usb 6?  Right now I midi out to the harmonizer with no luck. I'm doing something wrong.

    I'm a bit confused here..
You want to "hook up the harmonizer between the Apro and your Focusrite usb6"?
You want to control the harmonizer via midi, right? (Just making sure I understand)

Then you can connect the a midi cable from the harmonizer’s midi in to the Focusrite’s midi out.
After this you should be able to control your harmonizer if you create a midi track in sonar and
select the right midi output (focusrite midi out) on that track.

    Hope this helps :)

Hey Loptec! Yes, I want to control the harmonizer with midi.  Here's where I'm confused.  I thought I could just use the Apro to trigger my harmonies internally with the harmonizer. That's what I used to do with my BR1200cd.  So your saying I need to get Sonar involved?

Ah, you don't want to use sonar..
No you should be able to connect the midi out from the a500pro directly to the harmonizer! :)

I think you have to use the AC adapter and then set the "DC Off USB" button to "DC" for it to work though...

Otherwise I think it's trying to send midi through the usb cable instead of the midi cables.

I'm not familiar with the harmonizer but I assume it's module with it's own sound engine? Midi in, audio out? Midi in, Midi Out? Is it recognized as an input/output in Sonar Midi devices? Or in the inputs/outputs main section? It sounds like you want to drive the harmonizer with the A-Pro and at the same time have the midi out from the A-Pro recognized in Sonar seperate from the harmonizer. If that is the case you can use a Midi router to hook both devices to. I assume your USB 6 has a single in/out Midi? Rather than chain everything, you can use a router and route the devices in Sonars inputs and outputs thereby having the A-Pro as input for multiple devices. <--- short story

    Since Barczar wrote this..
"I thought I could just use the Apro to trigger my harmonies internally with the harmonizer. That's what I used to do with my BR1200cd.  So your saying I need to get Sonar involved?" ..I'm guessing that he wants to control his harmonizer without sonar. And since A500pro just is a midi controller, I'm guessing it's midi he wants to use to control it.. :)

Not sure what he means by internally. That's just one way of routing Midi devices and leaving options open that you won't have if you daisy chain the devices. There are many variables, one of which is Midi Thru on the Harmonizer.
