A Night at Kettleman's

This is a vid of the best little bagel shop in town.

Music was edited in Cakewalk using Z3TA and Dim, with an analog yamaha piano (parts of which are heavily effected with drop pitch reverb). The video was shot on a Polaroid x720, and edited with my AVID NLE. Sadly, the conversion when uploaded to youtube is less than stellar... but it sounds pretty good .

Keys/Piano/perc: Shad Young (me)
Bass: John Burgess

A Night at Kettleman's

Regards
Shad

This works well Shad, good blend of music and visuals. Lovely bass lines. I liked the change up at around 1 minute with the tinkling piano and Moog style synth. Nice one, enjoyed it.

Hi Shad, it's been a while.  I like your song and video.  The song went in several unexpected directions, which I like, and the blend of sounds are very compelling.  This could be edited to make a commercial for the deli, though it works as is.  I'd love to be there right now.

    All the best,

James - thanks for the listen, and thanks for reminding me that I failed to give credit to John for the bass part. My bad (sorry John, thats what happens when I upload at 5AM

Thanks Lynn - Yeah, the new puppy has kept me about as busy as a small child would these last three months. When they say border collies are the breed most likely to be abandoned because of their extraordinary activity needs, I can attest to that fact completely. The dog can go all day, and still be begging for more. I have to say its been a while since I have done anything creative and damn it feels good to work on creative projects again. Damn good.

    Thanks Ed.

Robby - I am having a hard time keeping track of all your aliases . Thanks for the ears brother.

Hey Shad nice to see you back, firstly what is a bagle??  Is a like a cross between a pretzal and a bread roll.  I have no idea.

The song is cool reminds me of Pink Floyds "Any Colour You Like".  Didn't you feel a bit creepy spying on the people in the shop, I know I always do when I do videos like this.

Hey, Shad, como esta ju bean?  Great to hear from you here.  I remember this tune.  I think I even started trying to do some vocals or something once.  I couldn't make it sound better so I didn't do it at all.  I love this tune, buddy!

Ben - What's a Bagel? I am guessing you have never been to New York, Montreal, Berlin (or anywhere in Europe including Russia), or the middle east?  It is a yeast leavened bread that is boiled in lye (New York Style) or honey (Montreal Style), and then baked. Kettlemans is somewhat unique in that the bagels are made in the traditional way (hand rolled, wood fired oven). Thanks for the Floyd comparo. I kind of felt it had a 70's Steve Wonder vibe, (mostly near the end), and for the life of me, I do not know why. Thanks for taking a listen/watching.

Frank - Thanks. Why is it I only ever notice mistakes AFTER I post it publicly? I am not not sure if its he bass pumping, or the kick effect. Its really only noticeable at high volume on the cans here, so i may just leave it as is.  Glad you liked it. Means a lot.

Robby - I understand. My hyde side is not so fun either.

Starrise - LOL I know what you mean. Its impossible to walk out of that place with a bag of warm bagels not not eat half o them before you get to yiour car. (Tim is your name?)

Warren - Hey hombre! Soy fantastico! Y usted? You are probably thinking of "Dragon Fly", or "Will she Marry me?" which were part of a similar theme. I never really had an idea for lyrics on this one. Thanks for the listen man!

Cain - Thank you sir. Always a pleasure to hear kind words from artists I admire. This is by far the best ending of any song in my repitoir. I am really proud of this one.

No, this is the one.  You weren't doing lyrics, I just had your track (you sent it to me) and I was playing with it.  Tribes is the one.  I think Blipp had something to do with it at the time.  I miss you guys up here.  Glad you're back.

Yeah. John (Blipp) did the bass part. I just remember being stunned when he sent it... it was like he read my mind. I sincerley do not recall what your involment was in this (I just remember my own failure with your song "out of love" hehehe - I still feel bad abou that... my head space was just all wrong at the time - divorce and all that)... did you decide you could not do it or something?

Hey, buddy, I didn't have an invovlement with your song other than to tinker with it for my own pleasure, which you allowed me to do.  I don't think I ever sent anything to you cause I couldn't come up with anything.  As far as Out Of Love, there is absolutely nothing to feel bad about.  I did finish it and posted it.  I couldn't sing it properly (not my style) so I didn't push it much.  I might do it again if I can find a really GOOD singer.  Please don't even consider that anything was wrong on your part!  The song is inconsequential compared to the crap you were going through!!  We still love ya, buddy!
