A REALLY controversial thread

Ok, I have to say it out loud, it's been eating me inside.
I think Star Wars sucks.
Tolkien did it better in print 50 years before.
There, I've said it.

I've never seen ET.
I like Star Wars well enough but it moves a bit slowly. Lucas is no Tolkien, that is for sure. I've read the Hobbit and LOTR many times and own the movies, I don't own any SW movies, they are light fare I guess.

The only movie I ever fell asleep while watching it in the theater was Love Story. That was the worst, most boring POS I have ever seen. I did pass out in the theater watching The Wall by PF... but it wasn't the movie's fault, I would have passed out where ever I was that evening, it was in the 70s you know...

I didn't care much for 2001 a Space Odyssey. The effects were pretty good but meh... and I saw it at Lowe's Grand Theater in Atlanta... the place where GWTW premiered. I can't believe they tore that place down.. and the Atlanta Municipal Coliseum. We still have the fabulous FOX theater though.

Yeah, Star Wars... I can take it or leave it. I am looking forward to the next season of Justified! It has really great theme music by Gangsta Grass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT2i2UylxJ0

Yeah but even that fact couldn't rescue the transparently puerile, goodie vs baddie excuse of a concept, roight?

A bit like all that Harry Potter drudgery, it's great for the kids and that, but if you take it into adulthood it might be time to take a serious look at yourself.

Just sayin'

Anyway that's just a thought that came to me whilst watching my Barney DVD boxed set.

This sounds exactly like the music generation issue we had in that other thread.  When the original Star Wars movie came out it was head and shoulders above any science fiction flick that was around in terms of special effects and popular interest (which, if you read my post in that other thread, means the plot had to be a bit simplistic).  Taken from that time period, it would be hard to beat.  Unfortunately, Lucas buttered that slice of bread for too long and has become more of an example for Backwoods' point of a pop star trying to be relevant after they're old.

Sure, there was always a plan for nine movies done as three trilogies, and it's pretty amazing that he was able to actually finish two of the trilogies, but the largest impact would have been if they could have come out much closer to each other timewise.  That said, I still know several people that will be buying the 3D set even though they already have the original in 8mm, the full VHS set, the original DVD versions and the remastered DVD's.

I like Star Wars.

Apart from the first three.

Or is that the last three?

But I absolutely love the Family Guy versions.

Seth MacFarlane admitted that they were using so many references and in-jokes about Star Wars in the regular FG episodes, he was worried about the possibility of legal action for any number of contraventions of various laws.

He'd long had plans to do the parody of the 'original' movie (IV - A New Hope), but to be on the safe side, they decided to ask permission from George Lucas/Lucasfilm. Much to his amazement, they agreed and so they went on to make Blue Harvest and the subsequent versions of 'The Empire Strikes Back' (Something Something Something Dark Side)and 'Return Of The Jedi' (It's A Trap).

I love the line at the end of It's A Trap (after the 'film' has finished) when Chris asks if they are going to be doing the prequels and Peter says "The Cleveland Show will be doing them".
