A Slew of questions. (Great Time killer!)

Sup all. Got a question, I did a search for it already, and wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for. Heres the deal, what exactly are VSTs? and how DO I use them? Are they only for midi? For example that Organ VST, if I record a guitar and then use the organ VST over it, is that possible? How do I install them?

Also, that Mp3 encoder, the CWENC thing. I went to teh site and it specificaly says its not for Sonar 4, and to get Lame Encoder Instead. I have Sonar 4 home Studio? So i'm I okay? Or Should i get lame?

And now to give back to the community, I recently purchased a pair of MXL condensers. They were 99 for both, they come in a set. And before you say anything, let me tell you, they sound very nice. And for 99 Dollars you can't go wrong, its great for Acoustic guitars, vocals, but especially acoustics. So yeah, there we go. Just spreadin the info for all the times i've been helped.

Thanks
Happy Mixing

You need a VST adapter to use VST plugins in Cakewalk programs. These VSTs can be audio or MIDI effects or virtual instruments. Here is something that may help

SHS4 comes with the Cakewalk VST Adapter so all you need are the VSTs and then run the Adapter.

Place the VSTs in a designated folder and direct the Cakewalk VST Adapter to scan that folder.
Take the tutorials in the Getting Started Guide or Help File that will teach you how to use software instruments in SHS4.

CDex is a standalone MP3 encoder that could be used after you have mixdown your projects to .wav files. Get it here
