A Sudden Hush

falls over the Coffee House.  No one makes direct eye contact.  Shrouded in his black cloak and flourishing his sharp scythe, Willy steps away from Bapu's table.  Everyone appears suddenly very intent on studying the bottom of their coffee mugs.

Slowly, with a voice that groans like a heavy, stone door of an ancient mausoleum, Willy says, "I guess Bapu's post count matters 20% - 40% less today..."  Beagle wets the floor nervously.  "Anyone else with a comment?"

Silence falls.  Not in the usual manner, you know.  Not with someone getting elbowed in the ribs, grunting, and whispering, "What was that for?"  It falls quietly, without protest, without fanfare, and without a whimper.

The silence remains, blanketing the room like cold death until Willy slowly floats through the closed door of the Coffee House.  In the hideous stillness, you can faintly hear maniacal laughter.

Slowly, the light appears to return, the sense of absolute terror lifts, Beagle denies that he made that mess, and the background noise of the Coffee House returns to normal.  A few people express their sympathies to Bapu for his loss.

He doesn't seem to know why...

In my best Freddie voice I declare.

24k Post Count - It doesn't really matter.

Not to Bapu. Bless his heart.

I know Beagle is more than capable of protecting himself, but if he says he made no mess he made no mess.

Trouble is that when he writes his resignation letters nobody is prepared to let him go.

It's really irritating when my day job gets in the way of writing, playing and recording.

Unfortunately, I'm not scheduled to retire until about 50 years after I'm dead.  I've got a lot of meetings.

I have one to go to now, as a matter of fact...

But those stories were only heard in the past.

    How can you trust them?

Since I spread them in the first place, I'm not trusting them.  At least, not until I make them up later.  It gets a little confusing, or so I will tell myself last week.
