A TOAST TO MENG & THE BANDLAB TEAM ( Esp. Noel,Ben & Scook)
Humbly, I am only one of the numerous thousands who have watched this forum space intently in recent months. Each morning 'Down Under' in Australia...........YES....I would drowsily reach out from bed to my IPhone and 'shake it' metaphorically as I linked up with this forum for the latest news. WHY? Why Indeed!!!!! Late last year, a faithful old friend from the 1990's was suddenly jettisoned , 'perhaps ruthlessly', in a desperate bid to keep its current owner's Hot Air Balloon afloat. That Balloon and its frenzied occupants continue, to this day, to bounce around in the clouds of doubtfulness, seeking a soft landing somewhere in 'Music Land'.Notwithstanding,An Insightful young lad, by the name of Meng Ru Kuok, (ie: who ...for some inexplicable reason at the time), was inspired enough by one thing or another..............to delve into the world of Cakewalk. His timely investment of time and resources has saved this amazing music, Sonar software, in order to guide its growth into / morphing as ' Cakewalk by Bandlab'. For This Venture.................Thankyou Meng ,.............CHEERS Following on :You ...(Meng)... undoubtedly developed into a very serious, longtime , Sonar user / observer.... OR........at the very least, a passionate DAW devotee. Your obvious ' in depth' understanding of both the Sonar program and the impassioned feelings of its brethren mean that you were ...... AND ARE... very astute in the the use of the program and the needs of its users. NOW,NO PRESSURE MENG :) ......I have so much respect for your discernment .......... BUT.......Are you willing to divulge ( at some stage - maybe via a fund raising raffle for 'THE BAKERS') your Sonar forum pseudonym of the past X Years ? Otherwise ...............YES ...........I imagine...Rumours will run Rife :) as to who IS the real MENG RU KUOK in our forum :) Cat amongst the pigeons Hey ! AND............It will be a rocky road in the immediate future as The Bakers sort it all through..............so .......be patient guys. It 'will be brilliant by the end of the Movie' Raise your Hats........... HOW ABOUT THREE CHEERS FOR MENG AND THE TEAM ? HIP HIP HOORAY !!!! HIP HIP HOORAY !!! HIP HIP HOORAY !!! Best wishes to you Frank Harvey :)

I, for one, am very thankful that Meng/BandLab have rescued the software from oblivion. I looked at other DAWs in the last few months and didn't find anything I wanted to switch to. SPLAT (now Cakewalk) just works for me. Even if BandLab did nothing but ensure that the software continues to play nice with Windows (no bug fixes or feature updates) and that I can install it, and the formerly bundled apps on a clean/new PC, I'd be happy. My projects (two bands plus personal demos) all seem to play fine in the new Cakewalk. I've been a paying customer (lifetime updates) since Windows 3.1 and it doesn't bother me at all that the software (minus 3rd party stuff) is free. It means I can collaborate with local musicians easier by swapping bundle files. No doubt BandLab is hoping that Cakewalk will be the DAW of choice for their users to collaborate globally. And more people using Cakewalk can't be a bad thing. So, a HUGE thank you for keeping Cakewalk alive. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming years.

Yes, many thanks to Meng for rescuing a great DAW and for being so open and taking the time to talk to and update us users personally. And thanks to Noel and Ben for jumping back in and doing what they do so well. The future looks very exciting!
Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Installed the new thing last night, went smooth for me. I just happen to have a fine bottle of Pinot Noir open right now, being a Friday night, so I'll raise my glass to my monitor ? . . . feels kinda' weird, but thanks Meng, Noel and BenStat for keeping the music alive.

Anderton I very much get the feeling that rescuing Sonar is Part 1
Absolutely agree, appears to be an energetic crew of forward-thinker's in the BandLab team. The roll-out of Cakewalk By BandLab this past week should convince anyone these folks are paying attention, headed somewhere, on a mission...and they just got started. It is still sinking in, one of the best DAW's known to humanity is now... free. If I were a noob, just getting started with the new Cakewalk, it would be all about hardware; interfaces, keyboards, controllers. Hmmm, what if some of the best options were available right there on BandLab's site, a mere click away from purchase? A lot of possibilities at play, depending on how smooth future development plays out for the "new" Cakewalk. I also use Studio One, it and Sonar have been my dream duo for a couple years; this has been a good week for users like me. Who knows, a year from now, I may be using cutting edge, studio grade HD BandLab hardware that syncs up with Cakewalk similar to how Studio One and PreSonus hardware does. Then again, that could be a rabbit hole that winds up like Gibson scenario, but judging from the collective energy on display at BandLab this very week, not likely...what Anderton said.

Woo-Hoo! I did not hesitate on contributing to the tip to The Bakers (not just for the reward swag :)) but because I'm grateful I can continue using the same DAW platform I've been using for the past 23 years. I do own other DAWs, but honestly I've been getting a tad anxious about having to cram to catch up in order to get the same workflow I've been using on Sonar. Thank you Meng for taking the Cakewalk DAW platform out of its 5-month coma.
