A Tele for Wookiee..

.Love this forum software....as we all know to well.

..I played it this evening and now waiting for the neck to set in and
do a final check in a few days.
Order a case Monday and get this guitar home.

Two years ago I decided to invest and find out if I could build a half-ass guitar...
what I wasn't expecting was the support from folks here...not in the manner
that it was given -and how does one say thank you for that...it just doesn't seem
enough....but a sincere thanks to everyone for not only tolerating my babbling but
for all the kind words and support. All of you made it a very fun trip that just wouldn't
have been the same without you.

And for Ed, Steve, Grant and John...hugs for you guys...having faith in me...you'll never
be forgotten. I can only hope I've done you all good and the instruments last for the ride.

I have other things that I need to get done so guitar/bass building is on hold and I'll probably
have to relearn everything by the time I get back to it.

Hope ya enjoy and thank you all. I'll let Wookiee decide if it's a guitar or not. :)
Michael

That is a beautiful guitar. (And I don't usually like natural wood finish guitars.)

    Dang, that looks scary sweet!

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Too much man, too much... now I won't be able to sleep.... I'll be fantasising about all those wonderful guitars out there that I don't get to play....

You're way too good at making pretty guitars! And if they sound and play as nicely as they look then... I... just can't handle it...!!!!!!

It's looking pretty sweet man, well done!!!

I'll be the first to admit that I never owned a tele because I always thought they looked butt-fugly, however THAT'S one that anyone would be proud to show off.  Good job Spacey!

I don't usually like Teles, neither do I usually like natural wood finish, but this one is NICE. :)

Thank you guys for the kudos!

And from the ones that don't prefer natural...unreal! Thank you Dave and Rain. :)
I can relate too. I always preferred natural only on jazz type style, excluding sunburst
which has always been cool with me and a finish that I will be attempting later on.

We know purty doesn't cut it and I'm hesitant to remark about the guitar because I don't
want to sound arrogant...I'm sure not good enough for that and hope I never get that way...
I'll take the good enough part though LOL.

I'm definately biased and do believe that the ones I've built are very much better than
something like a deluxe Strat or Tele...but...maybe it's because I've been trying so hard to
have not only a better built guitar but also better action, stability, sound and feel, so that my evalution has been effected by desire. Only the owners know the truth I'm thinking.
I can say in all honesty that if I didn't feel they smoked most "commercial" guitars- I wouldn't ship them. ( again- I have not sold any for a profit- I've only posted these for the enjoyment of the trip)

Mike I was really unsure about the control plate. I didn't want to use ebony and all my other rosewood that would have played with the fretboard was too different. I had already decided to inlay it so the common chrome plate wasn't an option and really wasn't anyway. Should I have been smart I would have attempted cutting it out of the top piece to use. Not sure it would have been better but it would have been nice to find out.

Well it has .007 neck relief at the 8th fret. The nut action range is .006 to .028 and we know that is some very low action going on for the 1-3 strings. I graduated to 28 because
they could always be lowered and my ears tell me that a little high on the low end has better tone and definately more room for heavy picking without rattle.
    Absolutely no buzz or rattle.
I used the pups Wookiee wanted- vintage and they sound good but not my preference FWTW. Always fun trying different ones so no biggy there.

It's the first time I've used the Planet Waves Auto Trim tuners. They do what they say but I probably won't use them again unless requested. Just my preference is different for numerous reasons and I don't want to bad mouth them because they're not bad.

The guitar has a wonderful tonal range and I really love having the blender pot. It just
makes it so easy to dial in a precise tone. Tweaking the pup mix and tone control together is just a cool thing IMO. Something I can't do with switches.
I'm thinking if I built a three pup config I'd wire a blender to the neck pup...I really like
being able to mix a little of the neck in with the bridge. I like getting a little lows mixed in with the bridge much better using the neck up rather than a tone control. Much better tones IMO. Nice to add a little low rather than roll off the highs IMO.
I keep saying IMO because I sure don't want readers to think I know it all....it's just my take for consideration.

Like all the other builds I still had problems and spent a lot of time working my way out of them. Weird and stupid mistakes and I look forward to the day when I can build one according to plan from start to finish. Seems like it may be hard to achieve since everyone is and will be so different. I doubt I'll ever build two the same just to achieve a flawless build though.

Case is ordered and if I remember I'll post a goodbye pic...geeze that is the hardest part but it's so cool knowing it's going to a great home and such a wonderful person.

    Michael

Man I didn't realize I had typed so much...sorry for the format and long wind.

That's a beauty. When I get through "aging" my body wood... I may have some questions for you.

That is a beautiful job. I have a friend who builds bass guitars,Steve Kudela. Your work reminds me of some basses he has made.. and that is a compliment!
