A Worried Mind (Another Attempt At Correcting the @#$*!!!??@** Mix On This Song)

I wasn't sure in which of the SoundClick categories that I should have placed this number.  There are a couple of spots in it that sounded (at least to me) almost, kinda jazzy -- so, I put it there (?).  Maybe some of you can relate to the lyrics of this song.  After too many years of planning for what might be coming up in the future, I am finally trying to learn how to appreciate and enjoy the present.

This number is a bit out of my normal realm, so I would be very interested in (and appreciative of) your comments, crit.'s suggestions, etc.  I hope I did a little better job on matching the drum with the music on this song.  Also, I tried something new (at least for me) on the sound of the vocals.  Hopefully, I didn't mess them up too much.

Thanks in advance for listening.

    Hey Freddy,
Sounds pretty good man. I think the kick needs a kick in the butt, you can feel the bass line more and only hear the kick if that makes sense.  I think it needs a bit more low end.
The vocal effect does it a little challenging to make out some of the lyrics.  Maybe just back it down a hair?

Hey Freddy!  I agree with chuck about the low end, it seems to be lacking.  also , the vocals seem to be a lot wetter than the drum, the drums are almost dry in comparison and sound too dry.

good stuff, tho, love that synth!

    Freddy,
I was not sure I liked the vocal treatment, so I listened a second time.
It works for your song. Maybe drop the bass a db and raise the kick a couple db.

I agree with the above tweaks with also maybe a little more pop/fullness on the snare. This is very enjoyable song with some potential to be even better. Keep up the good work!

Chuck, Reese, Bruce, and Ron --- Great feedback!  Thanks!  I have made the suggested corrections by all:  1)  I put more bottom on the kick (I hope not too much) and brought the drum more forward, 2)  the vocal effect (or in this case maybe affect?) has been dumped --- what I was doing might work but on another song - not this one; 3)  dropped the bass down a bit; and 4) tried to fix the snare (??? not sure it worked ??).  Thanks again for the advice.

cool lyrics... some of your phrasing needs attention to timing so it flows easier..
I'd back off just a bit on the vocal effect too... neat tune Freddy...

Hard time critiquing on the laptop, you gotta feed that keyboard play less tequila before shows! And I consider 100% of your music to be rockabilly. May lean different directions from time to time, but it leans "from there."

Nice tune! To me the tune sounded like it was mixed like the old motown. Not super boosted like a lot of todays music, and maybe that's the vibe you wanted? You could modernize it with some bass and backing off the reverb if you wanted to. Nice arrangement.

I haven't been able to get on the forum much last week --- so, I have been late in responding to your comments.  My apologies.  I very much appreciate your comments and suggestions.  Your suggestions are valid and I have tried to incorporate them into correcting this number.

I find it interesting that with some songs everything seems to go to your satisfaction the very first time you finish it but with some others it seems that it will never sound right.  This is another attempt at getting this doggone song correct or at least near correct.  I don't want to toss this number (I like the intent of it) but trying to get the mix right is about to put me in a rubber room.

Anyway, I appreciate your input and have used it to make this latest attempt at a corrected mix.  I would be grateful if you might give it another listen and give me your suggestions once more on this iteration.

    Thanks a million.

    Freddy,

This is a really cool tune.

Only crit is some of your lead vox phrasing seems cluttered (too many words/syllables).

    Mix is spot on.

I really like this tune. Very cool solo section...I like the keys and guitar doubling.

The mix sounds fine on my cheap laptop

    Yeah... cool tune.

I'd place it in the rockabilly genre.... leaning a bit towards blues and jazz in a subtle way.

Listening on the computer speakers....sounds OK to me.

Good one, Fredster.  I'm on the headphones and not the monitors.  Everything sounds pretty cool.  Maybe a tad less vocal reverb, but that's to taste.  Good job on this!

Hi Gary:  Thanks for the kind comments and for the listen.  I'm very glad that you liked it.

Thanks Herb -- I appreciate your comments.  I was confused as to where to categorize this thing and though it was mostly Bluesy/Jazzy.  It does have a strong rhythm to it and that could give it a rockabilly feel.  Maybe I will classify it as jazzy Bluesabilly???    ;>)

Mark -- hey buddy.  You are most kind in your comments --- thanks a bunch.  How is your retirement?  Are you still catching those big trout?

Warren how are you?  Ya the reverb might be a tad much.  You should have heard the mess that I did to the vocals before I started all these re-mixes.  It wasn't pretty :>)  Thanks for taking time to listen and comment.

    Hi, Freddy,

I must have missed the first mix of this, but, this one sounds really good to me!

Nice smooth flowing rockabilly vibe, excellent vocals and guitar work, and I really love the vintage organ parts.

You've got a very distinctive style and flourish that always sounds great.  Another fine feather in your cap, Freddy, nice job, my friend!

This is weird - I was sure I already commented on this last week. Anyhow, it all sounds pretty good to me - might be inclined to bring the vox slightly more forward, but wouldn't change much else.

    Freddy,

Sounds good, I am hearing it for the first time after you made the changes mentioned earlier in the thread.   Cool song.  Maybe start fading a little earlier as you can hear the instruments start dropping out before the final fade.   Really good though.

Freddy, you've been busy. You've done a bunch of songs I haven't heard yet. I like this one too. You play keys just a little better than I do. Good groove, fun song. But, seriously, aren't you ready to release a cd yet?

Hi Grant.  I glad that you enjoyed this number.  Some mixes go easier than others and this was one that gave me a headache.  With a little help from Forum Friends, I finally got it where it is tolerable.
Thanks for the listen and response.

Bob -- Hey buddy.  You are most kind --- thanks for the kind words and encouragement.  The first mix was pretty rough but I had good suggestions which got me to something presentable.  Thanks again.

Thanks Paulo.  I appreciate you taking the time to listen and for you comments and suggestions.

Hi Markno999.  Thanks for the input and for taking the time to listen and respond.

A cd are you kidding --- I wouldn't even know where to start.  I blame my failings at the keyboard on my black and white colour blindness(?).  With the inability to distinguish the white from the black keys, I am never sure which ones I am playing ;>)    Thanks for taking the time to listen and for commenting.  I appreciate it Mark.
