The Prophet Song - Queen

The middle of the song breaks and goes in to this A Capella chant. It's awesome forward and backward. I posted the words because it's a little hard to hear backwards, but you'll pick up on it eventually.

Link to A Capella part FORWARD:
And now I know ... and now I know (repeats) ... that you can hear me.
And now I know ... and now I know (repeats) ... the Earth will shake in two will break (repeats)
Death all around (repeats)
Now I know ... now I know (repeats)
Whoa! (repeats)
Listen to the wise ... listen to the wise (repeats) ... man!

Link to A Capella part BACKWARD:

[0:00] Who's he out with? ... Who's he out with? (repeats)
[0:05] Oh whoa! ... Oh whoa (repeats)
[0:13] With no one! ... With no one! (repeats)
[0:28] Oh Aaron! ... Oh Aaron! (repeats)
[0.36] Aaron was bad! ... Aaron was bad! (repeats)
[0.40] Yes you were very sneaky ... yes you were very sneaky (repeats)
[0.45] Yes you were you ... yes you were you (twice)
[0:48] With no one! ... with no one! (repeats)
[1:02] Said he cheated with no one! ... said he cheated with no one! (repeats)
[1:08] With no one! ... with no one! (repeats)

Good one, Beagle.  They probably do have a few others.  Maybe Suite Judy Blue Eyes.

Sometimes, it's hard to telll the difference between a good harmony and an "a cappellla" section if the instruments only take a brief pause.  I've run across a few songs like that.

I agree.  but what's the difference?  is there a difference?  in my group we do that all the time - drop out the instruments or maybe MOST of the instruments - maybe drums keep going or maybe drums and bass or maybe just an occassionaly strum of an acoustic, but the vocals still continue strong in harmonies.

so is there a difference between an A Cappella "section" of a song and a song that just drops out the instruments or most of the instruments?  I don't know - I'm just asking.

If the band stops playing, it's a cappella.  I guess it doesn't matter how short the break is.  You and your band mates can choose if and when you put an a cappella section in.  That's your choice.  It's particularly effective in a live show when you can get the audience to join it.

A Cappella

As far as this thread goes, it really doesn't make all that much difference.  I was just starting to choose songs when I noticed that some songs I thought I remembered as being a Capella weren't--they just had good harmonies.  Poco is a good example.    When I went back to listen to the song, the rest of the band never really stopped playing.  Sometimes it was only for a measure or a few beats.  It was more of a memory test than anything else.

ha - well.  the leader can choose anyway!   the rest of us don't choose anything!

but we do that usually at least one song per week and yes, the congregation continues to sing along with us as well.  it IS very effective!

sorry to derail!  (deraille for our English brothers and sisters????)

Of course it did.  I marked it as "Helpful", I just didn't have a comment for it at the time.  Nowhere Man is a very good choice too.  I was looking for something else when I stumbled onto the Love version of Because.  I'd have eventually remembered to post it, but Jonesey beat me to it.

Good Morning Good Morning - Big Daddy

Big Daddy is a great group, I have a few of their albums. They redid Sgt. Pepper to the music of famous doo-wop songs from the 50's and 60's. It's almost as good as the original album. Here's their YuoTube Channel if you are in to this kind of thing. Some of the songs are better than the original. The legend of Big Daddy.
